Have never seen a broken item in the game. Where did you find it and what kind of item was it?

You only get broken items if you use normal weapons a lot (happens mostly in BG1)

Hmm... Ok that might be the answer. Never played BG1. Have used the same weapons in BG2 and ToB but no items broke.

Those are quest items and can't be 'repaired' into usable items. Except for the components for the Gesen Bow, Vorpal etc.

<font color="gold">No, the Broken Items you find in SoA, eg the Broken Sword in Irenicus' Dungeon, cant be repaired. You can just throw them away. ;) </font>

They are there for a reminder of BG1... with the Iron Shortage. If you haven't played... consider it. It is wonderful background for BG2, and it is a blast of a game! :D
