Las Vegas, April 7, 2003 - Thomson (Paris : 18453 ; NYSE : TMS), the world's leading supplier of content acquisition, distribution, and access products and services, announce today the signature of several contracts with large broadcasters as they are investing in equipments to digitalize their production facilities.

The largest of these contracts is with Fox Television Stations, owner of 34 stations across the United States, which has purchased a full complement of Grass Valley digital master control and production equipment to be installed over the next year. This equipment will work in tandem with digital cameras to maintain a high-quality signal throughout the broadcast chain. Details of the other contracts are being released separately.

That makes Fox News and its French products boycott campaign lose some credibility, doesn't it ?

Fox News also airs commercials for CNN...does that make them hypocritical?

Fox broadcasting stations (not Fox News) air shows geared to attract viewers who wouldn't fit the bill to be called the rich elite of this country even though Fox News caters to the Republican slant.

Is marketing for profit or saving money by dealing with this comapny instead of that one all of a sudden against moral law?

I thought that's what capitalism was all about...making/saving the buck...turning a profit

As far as I knew, it's not the Fox network that has issues with the French, it's the American government...Fox supports the government but why should they throw money out in the gutter for it? Ah, America....so right and yet so wrong...so loved, but yet so hated...and its all legal.

Aren't some Fox News speakers supporting and promoting french products boycott to "hurt France" cause France hurt them ?

So don't they loose a lot of credibility when their own company is giving money to the French State (20% of Thomson belongs to French State directly).

I don't see the link you can make between that and Fox News airing CNN commercials...I mean, they didn't tell anywhere that they were boycotting CNN, did they ?

No, but as media rivals, it would make them seem a little hypocritical to air commercials for the "competition"...the point is, Fox owners are going to make money wherever they please.

As far as Fox News speakers promoting boycotting french products, what does that have to do with what Fox owners do with their time and money? When did the two become so intertwined that neither are allowed to think or act differently?

Hang in there, when this conflict with Iraq is far enough down the road that the majority of our troops come home, Fox's rating will drop drastically, the same as all the other propaganda networks who are reporting from Iraq. ;)

Whilst exercising the right to boycott French goods please be mindful of the fact that Cartier are owned by a Swiss/Luxembourg company.

You should rightly boycott Jamesons Irish Whiskey as this is owned by Pernod Ricard as is Black Bushmills (sob!), Chivas Regal, Glenlivet, Royal Canadian and Seagrams and last but not least Wild Turkey - is nothing sacred? Other alcoholic drinks that you should boycott include Jacobs Creek wine.

This is going to make life complicated isn't it. Don't stay at a Motel 6 or a Red Roof Inn - they are both French. Don't bank with the Bank of the West or First Hawaiian bank. You should not read the magazines Elle or Rolling Stone.

I'm afraid that you can't watch any films in Technicolor or listen to music on the RCA, A&M or Motown record labels. I'm sorry to say that the Sci-Fi channel is off limits as well.

Here's the good news. Grey Goose Vodka. Although the label says "Distilled and bottled in France," Grey Goose Vodka is 100% owned and operated by a US company

Happy boycotting!!! :D

Now - what about Canada? They claim that if they had Saddam they wouldn't hand him over. What about a boycott of Canadian goods?

It happens now and then...actually after what TL posted about Fox and the "truth" I am just a bit put off of them at the moment. :( </font>

Just one more thought :

If you're boycotting french products, to be logic and straight, you should then boycott Fox News and other Fox channels ?

I mean it has way more weight than boycotting a little french wine producer don't you think so ? Fox is actually giving millions $ to France atm with this deal...

Oh and please, stop boycotting the French's Mustard ! It's 100% from US :D
