...stacked in unsealed boxes, or wrapped in plastic in an abandoned Iraqi military base.
Records on the site list the names of the dead and some give reason as to why they are dead...the only translation passed on so far is the one that reads "executed by a shot to the head". With records dating back to 1985 and the age of the dead telling of being there "for a number of years", these are presumably the republican guard forces who attempted to stage a coup of the Iraqi regime after the Gulf War. A British officer on the scene stated that given the age of the corpses none of them could have been put there in recent actions. I hope he is telling the truth...I would hate to hear that this is a set up by coalition forces to pin "atrocities" on the current regime when we already know that atrocities are being commited. Apparently, the uncovering of this stash of bodies is going to help coalition forces prove it. (as if they need to) ? |
Moni, why would you think that? You admit that there is evidence aplenty that the current regime is committing atrocies, and yet, you balk when coalition forces discover evidence of atrocies? Excuse me, but the logic here totally escapes me.
|
It's too early to declare it an 'attrocity', for example, these could be the bodies of those executed for desertion or an army rebellion. I might remind you that in the first and second world war several thousand British troops were executed for these sorts of crimes. And the punishment is allowed under international law.
I *really* hate the death sentence! |
Skunk, that is a valid point. I guess what bothered me is the implication that it might be a "set up." I still don't under the thinking behind that comment seeing what we know about the Iraqi regime.

Reeka, when I posted this thread, plenty had been said about the find, plenty had been stressed about how they were not recent killings, but I had not seen any visual proof of anything other than stacks of boxes with the tied ends of plastic bags sticking out of the ends.
This is where I don't give blind faith to the coalition forces for what they are trying to prove against Saddam's regime. I won't elaborate any further on that thought because I do not want to incite anger but I will say that accusations of finds being planted will be made and with the propaganda citing greed, not freeing the Iraqi people, as the reason for this war, I would assume that the thinking masses would have to at least wonder without absolute proof. I know I do. They have since shown aged bones at least, which is plenty enough for me, really, and for that I am inclined to believe that what they say they found is in fact, true. P.S. If you are going to address me by my first name, would you please spell it out in full? It's Monique. I wouldn't call you Ree when addressing you and if you started posting here under a new pseudo, I would at least ask your permission to use the old one first. Thanks. A thousand apologies, Monique. (BTW, Ree is fine with me.) I am so so sorry. I didn't see anyone on your hello thread asking permission to call you Moni and I did not see you getting upset about being recognized and being called Moni. I didn't know that it was off limits. Alot of people were calling you Moni, I didn't know I needed to ask permission. I called you Moni when you were here the first time. In fact, I never saw anyone call you anything but Moni. I guess that was because your pseudo last time was Moni, as I remember. So, please, please, please, forgive my presumption.
Let me know if I have permission to call you Moni, OK? No offence intended. Ree PS: I am one of the "thinking masses." |

I'd prefer Lil Lil (the pseudo I post under) or Monique, my real name. I am glad to see that it is not a problem for you, and Thanks. As one of the "thinking masses", I hope my explanation was suitable and helped you to understand why I worded my initial post the way I did. Peace |
No problem, Monique. And rest assured that I will pass the word along that we are not to call you Moni anymore. Wouldn't want this to happen again.
Oh, and I apologize for thinking you were upset that I called you Moni, I must have not taken what you said in the way you intended it. I'm confused about one thing though, where ever did you get the idea that I thought your were trying to hide your identity? Did I say something that made you think that? On your edit: No apologies necessary. On your most recent edit...it was just the way you worded it/I read it...a misunderstanding that you can use this conversation as proof of that such misunderstandings can happen on either side of a conversation. No big deal. [ 04-06-2003, 12:05 AM: Message edited by: Lil Lil ] |
My pleasure.
