CNN story

Basically, this man is a lawyer by trade. He happened to be in that hospital when he saw an Iraqi soldier bullying our girl. He then convinced doctors not to amputate her leg and then got himself to the nearest Military post to tell the soldiers what was going on...but that is not all! He had to go back in and risk detection while drawing out and memorizing routes through the hospital so that he could deliver them to the soldiers so they could go in and quickly get out. He was like our little spy! He was quoted as loving America. This is the kinda guy I want to invite over for dinner one day!

What has happened to him since.. I have not been able to read the story, I guess it is a bigger story up there than down here. Are the Americans going to let him go to the US or will he have to live the rest of his life worried about his family's life and possible retribution?

But This guy is a real hero

Quoted from the article...

Quote:

Mohammed wants to work with the Americans some more, maybe help them gather information elsewhere in Iraq. His wife could help treat injured soldiers, he offered. Maybe he will go to America. But eventually, he said, he wants to return home.
“In the future when Saddam Hussein is down,” he said, “I will go back to Nasiriyah.” He said he would not worry then about the Fedayeen. “When Saddam Hussein goes down, I’m sure they will go away.”

For now, he, and his family, are under the protection of the U.S. Marines in that area.

It's selflessness like this that leaves me speechless. :D

Yes, this guy is a true hero. Mapping out routes and counting guards. Convincing a Doctor not to amputate her leg! A true humanitarian. Actually willing to act on what he knows is right. He can come over to my place for dinner, too, but I'd bet he's got much better offers already. ;)

Here's the story of other men who saved her:

From Timber's "Invisible War" thread.
Quote:

All the American military services have been harnessed together with a select but diverse group of allies, and information from the spies, analysts, surveillance planes and satellites of the intelligence agencies have been linked more directly than ever before to commandos on the ground.

The daring rescue of Private Lynch is the most prominent example of this complexity. As it unfolded, Marine Corps artillery created a diversion, while Army Rangers seized the perimeter of the hospital where she was held and Navy Seals pulled her out on a stretcher. Air Force AC-130 gunships were on call to bring their withering cannon fire into play if the rescuers ran into trouble.

American intelligence helped choreograph the intricate mission. When an Iraqi informant disclosed the wounded prisoner's location, American intelligence officers quickly found the foreign contractor who built the hospital, and within hours acquired blueprints that helped the small team of Navy commandos enter and escape without casualties.
