CNN news source

Basically, what happened was a car approched a check point, a pregnant woman got outta the car and began screaming in fear...three of our men approached the vehicle to see what was wrong...and the car goes boom.

Another example of the dirty tricks that they are playing. I personally think that the woman was an innocent victim of the bombing.

War sucks. Fox showed video this morning of destroyed Iraqi vehicles outside the airport. There was a dead Iraqi soldier next to a BMP... for every dead Iraqi soldier we all see, how many THOUSANDS are out there? It's really depressing. The Iraqi's throw women at us because they think the death of one pregnant woman means more to us than ten thousand young men.

Well it doesn't to me, I've got two boys.

the woman was shown in a video alongside the driver (who was also a woman) swearing to die in a suicide bombing for the glory of iraq or some sh** like that. and yes, there have been so many iraqi casualties, it has gotten past the point of sad.

...and into the realm of indifference.

True, she and the other woman were video taped swearing their loyalty to "their hero" Saddam Hussein...and the one didn't look pregnant in the video...by all accounts, I've heard "she appeared to be pregnant when she got out of the car screaming for the U.S. Rangers to come help her and when they got close enough, both she and the car detonated" giving me the impression that her "pregnancy" was actually explosives strapped to her body.

We haven't seen the last of this type of extremist behaviour...let's just hope that the Iraqi citizens who have been brainwashed into any loyalty to Saddam Hussein can be cured before they die and kill others with the idea he is some kind of saviour...from what I have gathered, he isn't even religious, he just uses their religion to kill them and others with them.

Yes I saw the video on Al Jazeera. She was shown standing in front of the Iraqi flag bearing a semi-automatic rifle...

Yes, but you have to remember - if someone threatened to kill you *and* your family unless you got up in front of a camera and swore your allegiance to whomever, weouldn't you do it?

Saddam's regime is simply so filthy that you can't take anything at face value. It may well be the truth that this woman was ready, willing and eager to die for the cause, and did everything of her own volition. In that case it's sad.

However, it may also have been the case that she was threatened with the death of everyone she cared about unless she made this 'sacrifice'. Nobody can say Saddam is above this, because he isn't. Saddam would know the fantastic emotive value of "pregnant woman sacrifices self and baby for great Iraqi/Arab cause' in propoganda. It *could* also explain why she was screaming in terror and running from the car - she knew what was going to happen and didn't relish the idea of being toasted. In that case, it's criminal.

Sadly, this is one of the issues where it will be almost impossible to divine the truth. In reality, I guess it doesn't matter overmuch - the result is the same.

I gave that scenario consideration but neither of the women looked at all frightened when taking their oath...still, that's not to say that it was forced on them but I tell you what, if that was me in their shoes, being forced to blow myself up for a leader I despised, I seriously doubt that I would be able to hide my spite in pledging allegiance to him or my fright at what was going to occur later.

All said and done, what matters at this point is quickly removing him from power so that these kinds of actions will stop, if they are indeed being forced.

Skunk 04-05-2003 11:18 AM

There have been plenty of women suicide bombers operating in Israel - I don't see why this one should have been 'forced' than any of those that came before her. I saw the video - there was nothing in her voice or demeanour to indicate fear.

We know nothing of this woman - perhaps her husband had been killed in an air raid - and she felt that she no longer had anything to live for.

It's foolish to draw a conclusion (including this) in the absence of the facts.

Which is exactly why I did no such thing, and merely offered another explanation
