Military criminal investigators said the suspect was recently reprimanded for insubordination and was told he would stay behind when his unit left camp for Iraq, Time reporter Jim Lacey said.

Lacey said he was told by a military commander that the soldier lobbed three grenades into the operations center and yelled, "You're under attack!" A major told Lacey he saw a grenade roll by him before an explosion.

The officer died today.

Ronn_Bman 03-23-2003 07:37 PM

The mother of the SGT who made the small arms and grenade attack defended him from home saying that he didn't do it, and he was being blamed ONLY because he's Muslim. That is sooo much crap. :(

I know she's his mom, and she wants to believe he's innocent, but why does she have to say something inflammatory like that? 16 people were injured, but only 1 died. That leaves quite a few witnesses to the fact that he fired a weapon and threw 3 grenades.

I'm a parent, but I would not say something like in defense of my child unless I really had a reason to believe it was true. There are lots of ways to dispute charges without saying something that hurts Americans and Muslims and especially American-Muslims.

Sorry, but this just pisses me off.

Yeah, I just heard on CNN that he had been causing trouble for some time and they were going to leave him back. I also heard on CNN that he had expressed concerns about being involved in the war with him holding Moslem beliefs.

So,sad and tragic that this happened.

Whatever happened to psychological screenings? Is it possible that his recent behavior slipped by the notice of others due to the recent goings-on in the world? Just another sad chapter in this whole saga.....

Ronn_Bman 03-23-2003 10:29 PM

His recent bad behavior was the reason for deciding not to send him into Iraq with his squad, but I doubt he was showing any obvious signs. His mom my have blamed this on his religion, but obviously the powers that be did not. ;)
