Why is this being set up? The Americans should help set up a democracy. If Afghanistan wants to stop being a warlike country made of tribes, It has to form stable democraticly elected government.
|
Ultimately, the Afghan people have to rule themselves. To do this, the tribes have to come together. They have to agree on a starting point, and this is it.
The interim government will allow for a structured government (a requirement for receiving UN aid) while a constitution is drawn up in preparation of free elections. |
Oh great. So eventually, a democracy will be formed, allowing the people of Afghanistan the same rights as westeners.

Thats great. I suppose the only danger is that the tribes dis-unite and start fighting again. Once they get settled, I think the country could thrive.

That has a lot of stuff in it about the interim government. I would post my view again but it is easier for you to just read them there. |
Hiya Barry! Glad to see you add to the discussion. I have a question for you (and anyone else, of course).
Which would be true "Imperialism", allowing the Afghan people to attempt to form their own government or for the West, the US, the UN to force a government on them? Personally, I think (and hope) that the Afghan people will be better off if they can form their own government. |

You can't drag 'em screaming and kicking into the 21st century. They have do do things in their own time and as close to their own way as common humanity can accept. |
