What happened guys? I post a joke someone sent me in the mail, a few folks giggle, a few folks don't like it. I figured that much would happen. I leave work, come back the next day and all hell broke loose about it? From what I can make out, the thread was first locked, then deleted. I've got people jumping on me about it in other threads? Someone saw a post I made as a bait in retaliation for something I didn't even know they did! How crazy is that? People are getting kicked off. Threads are getting deleted left and right. WOW!http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/noncgi/smiles/wow.gif

I think we've lost perspective on this forum. It's a forum. It's a discussion. It's someone elses opinion. It's words on your computer screen. Everyone has their claws out ready to dig into someone for something. To scream injustice at the smallest offense or perceived jibe. To show the other guy up by talking to the mods about anything they see that they don't like. We had a word for that when I was a kid. We called it tattling. The mods are probably running themselves crazy trying to handle this. Have we lost our tolerance? Have we lost our sense of humor? Or have we just lost our tempers? Maybe we've lost our minds!

As far as my joke goes, I've decided I'm not sorry I posted it. I'm sorry some people didn't like it and I'm sorry some folks thought I was attacking them and thought I wanted to punch them for real. I'm not sorry however for not losing my sense of humor. Maybe you didn't like my joke, but I suggest you find one you do like. Joke about celebrities, Usama, yo mama, politicians, cars, crime, money, bars, prostitutes, or even me! Heck, I laugh at myself all the time. I don't even have to be in front of the mirror to do it! Find something to laugh about folks. Anything at all. As far as I can see you really need it!

All right! Time to find a rubber chicken and a three stooges video!

There's only one way to explain it:
No attacks on anyone will be permitted. So people unfortunately crossed the line (most likely unintentionnaly but they still crossed it).

Personnally, I had no problem with your joke, I taught it was a funny one! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif However, given the recent events, I think that Ziroc and the other mods have decided to prevent us from targetting one another. Unfortunately, your tread fell in that category as it targetted people (though it was funny... Oh yeah, I made that point already http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif).

You're right, this is a forum where we are supposed to have fun. Unfortunately, things have fallen of the rails and hopefully they will be brought back on tracks... soon, very soon.

At the risk of being accused of a)spamming or b) posting inconsequential fluff on a deeply serious forum, below is something I got sent today.

It has nothing to do with anything serious, but it made me SMILE and there has been precious little smiling here of late. If it does that for you, then it's been worthwile.......................if not, just ignore it and move on.

The following letter was forwarded by someone who teaches at a small
high school in country NSW (Australia). The letter was sent to the
principal's office after the school had sponsored a luncheon for the
elderly.

This story is a credit to all humankind.

Read it, soak it in, and bask in the warm feeling that it leaves you
with.

Dear School,

God bless you for the beautiful radio I won at your recent senior
citizen's luncheon. I'm 94 years old and live at the local County Home
for the Aged.

My family has long since passed away and I rarely have visitors. As a
result, I have very limited contact with the outside world. This makes
your gift especially welcome.

My roommate, Maggie Cook, has had her own radio for as long as I've
known her.

She listens to it all the time, though usually with an earplug or with
the volume so low, I can't hear it. For some reason, she has never wanted
to share it.

Last Sunday morning, while listening to her morning gospel programs,
she accidentally knocked her radio off its shelf.

It smashed into many pieces, and caused her to cry. It was so sad.

Fortunately, I had my new radio. Knowing this, Maggie asked if she
could listen to mine.

I told her to f*ck off.

God bless you.
Sincerely,
Edna Johnson

Here's a quote by the way which at least validates that the joke wasn't wrong to post and that the standards of right and wrong keep changing. Mind you, the forum belongs to the mods and what they say goes. They can change whatever they like. They can make it against the rules to post with vowels in the content if they wish. I realize this, but still feel I should defend myself here.

From Sazerac:

"But to attack people personally for their beliefs and opinions is just plain wrong. You can hammer away at the belief, the opinion, the point...but leave the person out of it. Please."

I think the joke definately targetted the belief of pacifism and no person in general.

Sir, you don't need to defend your post. I'm one of those who would be considered a somewhat-pacifist. I didn't find it offending. In fact, I found it funny. However, others could find it offending. You've extended your "sorries" to those that you could have offended. That's good enough.

The line has been drawn and those jokes are no longer considered OK. They obviously were before, but they are not anymore. No sweat. If Ziroc thought that it was that bad, he would've contacted you.

This is a classic!

I printed it and "suckered" everyone at work into reading it thinking it was legit. Every single one bursted out in laughter!

I understand you didn't mean anything by it, but others can be offended. It's nothing against ya! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

I guess just try to think from the other perspective, and remember others feelings.
