I mean, our biology teacher told us, after being bombarded with questions, that it's very hard to cultivate (is it the correct verb?) anthrax and it's definitely not done in Afghanistan(thay don't have the necessery labs and equipment). So where does he get it? Does he have accomplices in the USA or somewhere else who create it for him or what?

I hear there is lots of it buried somewhere in the Soviet Union.

The international black market, rogue governments, etc...

If someone has it, it can fall into the wrong hands.

"The Martyr" (excerpt)

There is sobbing of the strong,
And a pall upon the land;
But the People in their weeping
Bare the iron hand:
Beware the People weeping
When they bare the iron hand.

Here's a sad fact. Enough money can buy you anything in one way or another.

Well, it could be worse. If you recognize it (what's the disease called again in English?) soon enough, you can treat it with antibiotica. (we're doing infectious diseases in biology as well, specially anthrax) There are some that are much worse (don't know the English names, once again) but I guess they couldn't get their hands on them - luckily!

Anthrax is nothing compared to smallpox which is contagious. It has been said we will have enough vaccines in the US for smallpox by the end of 2002. Not very reassuring.

Smallpox is what crippled FDR and left him in a wheelchair. Many Americans did not know he was that way during WW2.

True Story.

At recent Continuing Education class for area paramedics, the topic of Anthrax was discussed.

The teacher started the discussion by asking if anyone knew how Anthrax was actually contracted. It was one of those moments when no one was answering, and there was an awkward silence.

One of the paramedics (a nice guy with good skills, but not the "sharpest tool in the shed") finally broke the silence. With complete sincerity he answered, "Through the mail."
