I really hope that after the US and UK has captured the terrorist they will help these people. Not just look the other way.

Maybe you should have chosen another name for this thread, I thought that you had found a sick website from the title of the thread, while in fact, you've found a website with info which is disturbing, there is a difference.

I cant imagine myself, or the people I love living under that kind of life. How the heck have we as a free world allowed the Taliban to continue this kind of oppression?

No vested interests in doing otherwise, until now. The Taliban have been in power for what, 5 years now? And the Northern Alliance, who I believe where in power from 1992 - 1996, or thereabouts, were *no better*, according to comments I have read by the Revolutionary Women. They also have a blatant disregard for human rights, especially if the humans involved happen to be female.

There are awful, sick and disgusting human rights abuses going on all over the world as I type. That is one of the main reasons why I espouse the idea of an international body with teeth, to take us gently towards a different kind of world, where human beings are treated generally with respect, and are given certain basic freedoms. It would be a long process, that goes without saying.

There are huge problems with countries such as America, Britain, Holland, etc etc going into countries unilaterally to try and resolve such problems. The situations are far too complex, and anyway, it can smack a little of old style colonisation if done with a heavy, insensitive hand. For the future, I believe we should move towards forming an international body that works (no, not a world government!) with a view to obtaining peace on this planet of ours, resolving disputes AND human rights abuses in diplomatic and peaceful ways.

I have posted on this many times, and am not going to start arguing about it again! Just to say that ultimately, warring on human rights abusers kills a lot of the people whose rights are being abused, with no guarantee of getting rid of the abusers, or ultimately, of changing anything.

You've cut right to the root of the problem here. It's never simple for another nation to waltz in and change a government. Having a 'vested interest' adds a reason to take action that will actually affect he country in some way, making it much easier to get the cooperation of the people.

A couple of notes... fromwhat I've seen, the Jehadis or Northern Alliance were actually worse than the Taliban, and that's a large part of why the Taliban was left alone, because as bad as it is it's still a dramatic improvement. Also, so far at least the allied forces are trying not to make it easy for the northern alliance to march to the capitol. They of course aren't hindering them any as the primary objective is the Taliban. But by now most of the forces blocking the Northern Alliances path could have been removed, but have not been. Now that there's a reason to stick our noses into Afghanistan's affairs I sincerely hope that the alliance will make sure that conditions improve there. Accomplishing that is in all honesty as important to me as crushing Al Queda.

You may have a point on the Northern Alliance - at least as bad - not sure about worse, as such.

And yes, as the move into Afghanistan HAS been made and there is not going back, I think it is of crucial importance that conditions improve as a result. The idea of forming a coalition government seems the only even potentially workable solution, fraught with difficulty though that is. As long as we stick around to help, one way or another, that should help to stop any extreme faction taking over - a major risk!

From what I recall from before 9-11, the Jehadis were basically each controlling small areas of the country as warlords. If they saw something they wanted... property or women, they took it. They cared not at all for the welfare of the people (granted the Taliban doesn't much), and several continued fighting each other, prolonging the warfare. The Taliban put an end to the warfare and to the constant looting and raping. Obviously they still had enough problems to rank right at the top of my "Worst Excuses for Government on earth" list http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif
