I seem to remember somebody in the CE Forum expressing an interest in Pakinstani politics - there is currently debate about whether to introduce Sharia law in one province. You can find a brief photojournal with people's opinions here.

This does not bode well for human rights.

This is really taking hold in part of the country.

And I agree, Sir Degrader. From an outside perspective it's got backwards written all over it, from a universal human rights standpoint anyway.

One of the quotes had a woman saying that the woman's rights issues were being blown out of proportion, and that they would be "given their full rights under Islamic law". That doesn't sound very comforting, to be assured all the same rights afforded to a minority group a couple of thousand years ago.

Ironically, I've read that it was the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in the first place that gave these groups in Pakistan an upsurge in support. They apparently didn't have this kind of power before that.
