Drunk driver hits cop car
By Mark Moor and Geraldine Mitchell
September 4, 2004
.
TWO Melbourne police officers on the prowl for drink-drivers got their man the hard way early yesterday when a motorist more than three times the legal limit hit their car.
.
The Knox officers escaped serious injury when the drink-driver smashed into their car head-on in the car park of the Ferntree Gully Hotel about 12.20am.
.
The officers were at the hotel, near the Burwood Highway, as part of a traffic operation.
.
Victoria Police traffic management unit's Senior-Sergeant Leo Potter said the officers saw the car fish-tailing towards them.
.
"They didn't have anywhere to go," he said. "It wouldn't have mattered which way they went, they couldn't get out of it."
.
The 28-year-old driver's licence was suspended after he recorded a blood alcohol level of .166 – more than three times the legal limit.
.
The man has been charged with traffic offences including careless driving and drink-driving.
.
He was not injured in the crash, but the two police officers suffered minor injuries.

Last year my co-worker's dad was partying with some friends. He had been at it a bit too hard and a bit too long but still decided to drive himself home afterwards.

He got behind another car on his way home and decided to follow it until his turn off came up. That way he thought he could pace himself. Sounded like a pretty good plan, but then all drunken plans do. ;)

He became concerned when that car began to steadily veer a bit towards the center line, and then into the other lane. He was so concerned with staying in his lane that he completely missed the reason the car he was following was moving over. That driver had seen a NC State Highway Patrolman beside the road with a car pulled over. Her dad missed the reason, but not the trooper's car. He nailed it! Total loss. No one was injured, but her father did complain that he wasn't treated very kindly by that very shocked trooper.

This remind me of a news here few months ago about a drunked man who drove his car to a police station at midnight and ram it right infront of the main entry door. He did a considerable damage but fortunately no one was hurt. However, he did rudely awaken the entire police station and the nearby police appartment and quaters.
