I haven't found a story dealing exclusively with this event yet, but John Kerry's daughters made an appearance at the MTV Awards show in Miami last night and were greeted with a huge chorus of "Boo's" from the audience.
I was surprised to hear that, since I figured the MTV crowd would be all in favor of John Kerry. Like I said, though, I haven't heard all of the details regarding the story. Entertainment Tonight mentioned their appearance, but not the reception they got, and said that George Bush's daughters made a "videotaped appeal" for all the young people to go out and vote this November. No word on the reception their message recieved either - though I would imagine it was similar to the one the Kerry girls received. Maybe the crowd was just disagreeing with ANY politics being intermingled with the show, don't know for sure. |
Considering what Alice Cooper had to say on the subject, maybe it was the thought of any politics being involved in such a show that pissed them off.
Not that I watch, or care to watch, MTV anyways. Gimme a re-run of The Simpsons or a broadcast of Citizen Kane any day... |
Its hard to tell who the boos (and cheers) were for in the beginning as they introduced both the Kerry girls and the Bush girls at the same time. Certainly there were boos (and some cheers) for the Bush girls when they showed their pre-taped video speech.
Funny thing is they both were making one o those "get out and vote" speeches and not campaigning for their respective camps. The entire show was filled with "get out and vote" style advertisment. I think it was P-Diddy who held up a a "vote or die" t-shirt during his time on the stage and the entire Outkast finale was stylized like a big political convention complete with banners that said "vote" and USA ballons dropping from the ceiling. Neither candidate was endorsed or dissed. I was simply pleased that Stevie Wonder performed with Alicia Keys. I was dissappointed the Black Eyed Peas didn't perform though, unless I missed them. It is sad- MTV only plays the same ten videos over and over again so all the nominees in most catagories were from this pool of ten or so videos. Lame! |
Duh!!!! They were booing because the Kerry sister's refused to do a spread in Maxim. Keep up with the times, man!

People still watch MTV? :confused:
|
Sure, DBear, MTV is where you go for music news and music related shows when you are sick of watching music videos on MTV2.
But, nothing beats ESPN8 -- "The Ocho" |
Pshaw! ESPN112 is where it's at!

MTV is a joke. Where are the music videos??? Music television is now reality/game show television
MTV = RGSTV |
Yeah, honestly, MTV sucks ;)

I thought MTV has sucked for a long time but maybe there is a glimmer of hope yet :D
A VIDEO clip that almost didn't get made won Melbourne rock band Jet a coveted MTV video award at a star-studded ceremony in Miami on Sunday night. The band's ubiquitous song Are You Gonna Be My Girl? - which has appeared in TV ads for iTunes in the US and for Vodaphone worldwide - won best rock video at the cable TV music channel's annual event, beating entries from English glam-rockers The Darkness and US acts Hoobastank, Evanescence and Linkin Park. The black and white clip for Are You Gonna Be My Girl? was made for $US60,000, ($85,600) a tiny sum compared with some of the other entrants in the category. I hope this gives them the springboard their talent deserves ... Ladies and gentlemen I reccomend to you the best new rock band in years JET |
