Black Baron, as you know, in Iraq (not Palestine, admittedly) Americans have been kidnapped and executed too, and I certainly wouldn't say that the current U.S administration has 'played liberal with bullies'. So I really don't think a 'tough' or 'weak' stance on terrorism has anything to do with whether kidnappers and going to keep kidnapping or not, no matter where they are from.

Really Hierophant? Do you want to know what I would have done when faced with such a choice?

Step number one: Get a Rescuing team.
Step number two: announce that i will destroy the city (in which the captive is being held) within 72 hours unless he is returned safe and sound. In the same time surround the city with troops and artillery.
Step number three: If my rescuing team fails to rescue the captive and he is being killed, i announce that now i will eradicate the city, and everyone should leave it within 72 hours. These people should not be molested, but they are prohibited in carrying anything short of money, jewelery and the like. Everyone that will carry a weapon when exiting the city, will be shot on the spot.
Step number 4: Announce that i will help rebuilding the city if the murderers will give up, or i will be pointed to them, with enough evidence.
Step number 5:raise the city to the ground with bombs&napalm.

I wish to see another kidnapping after USA army will destroy Mosul.

Level an entire city to the ground just because a group of terrorist is holding some hostages in there?

So, in short, you would prove conclusively to the entire world that you are a bloodthirsty tyrant willing to murder wholesale thousands of innocent men, women and children in order to enforce your edicts? You would be willing to create a legendary shining beacon of martyrdom that would endure in the history books for thousands of years, and ensure the villification and ultimate downfall of your rulership on the international diplomatic stage?

1) I will not murder any innocents, because i will give them 72 hours to exit the city (or more depending on a situation). Any soldier that will kill an innocent (read anyone that is unarmed), will be trialed and charged with murder.
2) I will help them rebuilding the city.
3) As a General/president/Prime minister, i am charged with well being of my own people, and i do not give a damn about other people's property.
4)They will not leave penniless, they can take their things with them (as much as they can carry).

5)I do not joke. After one example of power, there will be no hijacks and no problems from the population. Naturally i will search for terrorists among the population that fled the city. It will take several days, probably weeks, but in the end they will be drown in pigs blood in a place where everyone can see them.

You're insane. I mean no personal insult to you, but I think that those are some truly psychotic ideas. I can't think of anything else to say :(

Insane? Maybe. I will agree that this method is not a nice one, but this method guarantees the following things:
Terrorists will be mostly dead.
Civilians unharmed, apart from property.
No further problems.
and finally and the most important:
LIVES OF YOUR SOLDIERS SAVED!!
What is better-Life quality of iraquis damaged, or 30 dead USA soldiers in a month?

I am open for another suggestions, but i am certain that this one gurantees excellent results.
