I don't know whether to be happy or terrified.

Stratos 04-03-2004 09:39 AM

It'll be interresting to see how the results will turn out.

Son of Osiris 04-03-2004 11:26 AM

Interesting? The results could be apocolyptic! What if it works? Do you realize what acts of terror could be commited with such power?

-- The KKK could go back and help the south win the civil war, or they could assassinate Martin Luther King before his speech!

-- Neo Nazis could go back in time and help Hitler win the war!

-- Al-Qaeda could use it to go back in time and whoop America in Afghanistan and Iraq!

If they have the brains, they'll leave the Time-Space Fabric alone before something catastrophic happens!

It's still a long, long way from Einstein's predictions to actual time-travel (and I personally take it for granted that time-travel is simply impossible), so I suppose your worries are more than just a little premature.

To be honest, I'm more amused by the fact that you wrote Einstien instead of Einstein. ;)

*Travels back in time to prevent Whackmeister from strangling Grojlach*

If my knowledge in physics doesn't fail me, Einstein said that to travel back in time (ie. make time move backwards) one have to travel faster than the speed of light, at which point your mass would be infinitely large.

Son of Osiris 04-03-2004 06:52 PM

So if I was to go at the speed of light, I'd be one reallly heavy guy, right?

<span style="color: lightblue">Not quite: he said that moving more quickly than things around you will make time travel more slowly for you than for those objects. That is, if you travel at the speed of light for an hour, more time will pass for people moving at 'normal' speeds. Travelling faster than light will send you forward in time. As far as I know, there are no theories for travelling back in time which have any formal basis.
