Galloway accepts libel damages

(British) MP George Galloway has accepted damages and a public apology over an American newspaper article that alleged he accepted money from Saddam Hussein.
Mr Galloway, expelled by Labour for his stance on the Iraq war, said he had been "completely vindicated".

The Christian Science Monitor admitted a set of documents upon which it based its story were "almost certainly" fake.

The MP, who described the settlement as "substantial", has always denied taking cash from the Iraqi regime.

All of this shows what happens when you PAY people to provide evidence...

I'm a British anti war leftie and I would like it on the record that I think George Galloway is no friend of the international proletariat. In fact the man disgusts me. If he didn't take money from Iraq I would be very suprised - whether or not they can find any evidence. Galloway has admitted on several occasions that he has taken money from such wonderful regimes as Syria and Pakistan, and he has also admitted that he spent Christmas with Tariq Azis. They were offering money to anyone and everyone and he was taking it from anyone and everyone - I would be suprised if he did not take it from them.

And politically the man is an absolute mess. He's an ex-Stalinist who has spoken out publically against the Socialist Alliance at its formation, claiming that the demand that MPs take workers wages wasn't realistic as he "couldn't live on three workers wages!". This from an apparent socialist? Please... the man is not worth you time defending Skunk.

That being said, he was expelled from the Labour party for asking soldiers to disobey illegal orders - something I do not think is worthy of his dismissal. Don't get me wrong, I think he should have been chucked out, just not for the reasons given.
