An ivy league liberal has identified President Bush as conceiving and implementing the third of three grand foreign policy strategies in our American history. take a peek. |
I suppose it's a fair counterbalance to all of the equally extreme negative criticism at Bush's expense, but it's still just empty political rhetorics - and only the opinion of a single person, at that. He'll probably manage to rally the Bush-apologists behind him, but I doubt he'll be able to convince that many others.
Oh well, I suppose election time is nearing... We've probably only experienced the tip of iceberg regarding shameless mud-slinging and absurd praise so far. [ 02-11-2004, 01:37 PM: Message edited by: Grojlach ] |
Goddess help us all if he's shaped foreign policy for years to come... I read a disturbing article the other day. It made the (correct) observation that, in general, presidents in their second term tend to relax and stop worrying about pleasing the public, and concentrate on their own agendas.
If this is what Bush has done so far, imagine what another four years will do. He's alienated us from the rest of the world. Yes, even the United Kingdom. Just because we're allies with the leader doesn't mean the citizens approve of us... Ah well. |

And the thought of President Bush becoming LESS concerned with the opinions of voters and other countries is what has turned me from a staunch supporter to someone who is examining what the Democrats have to offer as an alternative. OH...and the Patriot Act also causes me a great deal of concern.</font> |
The PATRIOT Act frightens the hell out of me! Sometimes on an IM I'll say something critical of Bush (read: "I hope the ((Very unladylike word)) chokes on a pretzel again")and then pause and think for a moment... Is this being recorded, somewhere, somehow? Is there a file on me?
It's an absurd thought. At first. But I shouldn't even have to THINK about that. It shouldn't cross my mind! When you begin to even wonder if your government is spying on you... That, my friends, is terror. But it gladdens me to see that there are repentant Bush voters out there. |

"The Project for the New American Century is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to a few fundamental propositions: that American leadership is good both for America and for the world; that such leadership requires military strength, diplomatic energy and commitment to moral principle; and that too few political leaders today are making the case for global leadership."
OH FOR THE LOVE OF BHAAL! That's nonsense! "American leadership is good for the world"?! GLOBAL LEADERSHIP?! You mean global domination! That's frightening! We don't want to assimilate everyone! Granted, it's a right-wing lunatic fringe group, but it's still frightening. |
I remember being at a conference for Poltical Science students in Washington a few years ago and one of the American students saying that in her view the world could become a better place if America just ran everything. It was at this point that I backed away and started talking to someone else. Fortunately not many people agreed with her, but the fact that people think that is pretty scary.
Completely off topic, I remember I made some girl cry on that conference when I started quoting Remarque to her and saying I thought dying for your country as an abstract construct, as opposed to the principles you believe it embodies or the people who live in it, was pretty sick. Those were the days... |
