(Filed: 02/02/2004) Tony Blair has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. A Norwegian politician has proposed the Prime Minister and George W Bush for a joint award in recognition of their achievement in ensuring the overthrow of Saddam Hussein. Jan Simonsen, from the Right-wing Party of Progress, argued that the leaders deserved credit for laying the foundation of democracy in Iraq. Nominations closed yesterday and other candidates are thought to include Pope John Paul II and the European Union. The winner will be announced in December. |
There was a thread about this in the GD forum, but it was closed.
Anyway, the war in Iraq has been too critisized internationally for the Nobel Commitee to award either of them. |
I believe they lso got a joint nomination after the Afghan war. I'd be horrified and concerned if I thought anything were to come of it, but in truth I strongly doubt that this will amount to anything more than a political statement from a Norwegian idiot.
Then again Henry Kissinger has won one, so stranger things have happened I suppose. |
Here's the thread from GD.

Who said comedy was dead!

Will wonders never cease? Just when you think things can't get stranger....

War is Peace!

They only give the peace prize to people like Carter and Arrafat. You know, complete and utter failures.

I think the biggest joke is that the European Union is being nominated!
