PORT COQUITLAM, B.C. (CP) - A former pig farmer accused of being the country's worst serial killer will stand trial on 15 counts of first-degree murder, a provincial court judge ruled Wednesday.

Judge David Stone committed Robert (Willy) Pickton to stand trial in B.C. Supreme Court on the murder counts following a preliminary hearing that began in January and heard from dozens of police and civilian witnesses.

The judge said had the preliminary started a month later than it did, he would have been able to commit him on 22 charges.

The 15 victims were among a total that eventually rose to 63 missing women from the Downtown Eastside - mostly drug-addicted prostitutes - who disappeared from the blighted area.

What would posses someone to go around picking up prostitutes and killing them? If he is found guilty he should be put away for the rest of his life. I kind of blame the Vancouver police a little for not putting more effort in finding these missing women. It almost seemed like because they were prostitutes putting an effort into finding out what happened to the missing women didn't matter as much as other people who go missing.

Police are also searching a swamp area just outside of PoCo where remains have been found as well. A very disturbed individual to say the least.

pritchke, locating missing prostitutes is just as important as locating anyone else, however often times when reported as missing, they turn up several months later in another city or weeks later when the come down from their high so the resources devoted to such cases is minimal. Yes it's a shame, but not the fault of the VCP.
