I'm a half-elf Ranger with 'lease' of the Ranger cabin. I notice that there's some kind of area around the cabin that I can't get to. Please explain how to get in and what's it for. Thanks for your help.

You mean the narrow hallway surrounding the rooms right? I think you can get there by getting through the fireplace, but there's nothing there. Just game background, and in life it would be anti-theft measures like in Feudal Japan, where you shoot people from through walls. Notice the arrow holes.

Ah soooo! Thanks Suzaku. I thought there was some importance like hiding a werewolf back there to guard some treasure. Its an ugly cabin but hey I earned it. That was a good quest. Wished it was longer and scarier though. Thanks again.

IIRC I came across another cabin with the extra corridors around the perimeter. I suspect the designers reused certain areas, as this other cabin had stuff in the hidden areas.
Can't recall whether it was SoA or ToB, unfortunately. :(
