Do some of you know your family tree ? Do you know what your ancestors did and when they came from ?

I've been away from here for a while because I've been helping Mum with making our family tree and publishing it on the Net, and it's a lot of fun actually. You get surprised all the time, and sometimes you find cousins from the Net !

I've even found one cousin who gave me an old chronicle written by our common ancestors 2 centuries ago. Wow !

And, last week, I was watching a documentary on TV about the gold rushes back in 19th century, it was made by following a family whose name was Wilson through the full century, and I was thinking, maybe the people I'm looking at on these old photos are ancestors of some people I'm talking with on IW. Whooo !

Lanesra is always threatening to do our family tree - but he hasn't got round to it yet!

Nice to see you here Moiraine.

Scared to find out you've got French wine - er, blood in you veins ? :D

And, Johnny, that may be true if you hire a professional genealogist to do it, but it's much more fun to do it yourself. My mother is retired, so she can go to the different places and dig through the old archives, and I put what she had found on the Net and found additional stuff and some cousins. That's fun actually, feels like the kids' "hide and seek" game !

I found I have a tiny bit of Scottish blood ...

</font>
I think it probable (after 1066) that there is some French blood somewhere in me. :( and Scandawegian.

The Scots and the French always were fairly close - that's what comes from sharing a common enemy.

I would like to research the Irish side of my family. We counted them once. My Gandmother had 90 grandchildren, over 300 great grandchildren and about 100 greatgrandchildren. I think I'll leave that for a rainy day!

donut, don't dig too deep, you might come up with some relatives who cheer for west ham. lol

My brother did our my family - And lucked out

He found a book from around 1910 that bescribed 10 'patrican' families - so now we know our family-tree back to around 1650

Or Spurs, god forbid!

Moiraine, my brother is really into genealogy. He's traced our ancestors back to the time of the Magna Carta! It's taken him years. I have relatives in Canada, US and Australia that I didn't know about.

I think my background is fairly boring though, no major surprises. As far back as my bro got, all our direct ancestors were English. My mum's maiden name is of French origin, and my surname is Saxon (means 'One who wields a cudgel' LOL!)

Bahamut 05-10-2002 08:49 AM

Well my Surname indeed has some long lineage... it was with one of the most prominent names before in.. err.. China I think since we guys were rich to start with.. but then that was m fathers side.. my moms.. well.. look where I am now heehee :D

Redblueflare 05-10-2002 09:02 AM

I've asked my parents about my family tree an they don't seem to know very much beyond my great grandfather. (Who was Cherokee.) Maybe one of these days i'll do some digging just to see what I can find.
