Go here for more details.
The FBI just named a suspect in the recent pipe bombings of rural mail boxes: Luke John Helder. Based on what they have released so far, he appears to be simply a lone nut. I hope no copycats decide to "jump on the bandwagon", so to speak. Unfortunately for those of us who live under the Lone Star, Helder was last seen in Texas (the most recent device was found in Amarillo). Even with all I know about psychology, motivations, etc. I still have to ask "why do some nut-balls do this sort of thing?" *sigh* There is no understanding insanity, though.... |

Unfortunately for all us sane people, there are people out there who enjoy watching or even hearing about anothers suffering. I hope they catch this guy wherever he may be hiding.

Yeah, I read about the spate of bombings, I hope they catch the f*cker. I've been witness to several IRA bombs and IT'S NOT FUNNY.

Oh, fear not, Epona--they caught him outside Reno, Nevada several hours ago. I wonder what those things are to which he was apparently trying to draw attention? Probably something really stupid, paranoid, or both.
You can take classes where they teach you how to check out your house and your car for potential bombs. I suppose they'll have to add mail/P.O. boxes to the list now. |
Well I'm glad they got him, I haven't checked out the news yet this morning - I hope they got the right guy (mistakes happen).
Interesting about the training courses you mention - because I work for the government I have to be very aware about stuff like that (the building I used to work in was targetted a few years back, fortunately no-one was hurt when all the windows blew in). All our work mail is X-rayed when it comes into the building, we're told not to use metal letter-openers just in case, never slide your finger under the flap of an envelope in case of razor blades taped under it, what does Anthrax look like, that sort of thing. It's just a sad fact of life for us and I don't really think about it too often - you learn to live with it. |
well maybe we will findout why he did it. He apparrrently wrote a detailed letter to a newspaper and mailed it right before the first bombings. The paper turned it over to the FBI tueday ( it did not say when they received it) and that was how they knew who to suspect. Or so they say

I'm with Lanthir--what set off this nut? He probably got fired, got a failing grade, lost his girlfriend, or perhaps his medication got changed.
He does know that each instance of a pipe bomb is a separate offense, doesn't he? Of course, that is if they don't charge him as a "domestic terrorist" under the new Homeland Security rules.... |
