you know the writings that start every major chapter in Drizzt's series? those soul explorations from Drizzt? is it just me or those words are really awesome? I mean, most of them are so true that I think R.A.Salvatore can write self-help books if he wants to.

for example, he wrote one passege on "guilt", and it graspes Drizzt's personal growth in such an accurate way. I find some of it to be mirroring my own experiences

"Guilt resembles a sword with two edges. On the one hand, it cuts for justice, imposing practical morality upon those who fear it. Guilt, the consequence of conscience, is what seperates the goodly persons from the evil....

...to good persons, the suffering imposed by conscience will usually far outweigh any external threats. some would conclude that guilt-- conscience-- is the primary difference between the varied races of the Realms. In this regard, gult must be considered a positive force.

But there is another side to that weighted emotion. Conscience does not always adhere to rational judgement. Guilt is always a self-imposed burden, but is not always rightly imposed...

Rationally, I knew I was not to blame, that the actions were byond my influence, or in some cases, I acted properly. But rationale is hardly a denfense against the weight of guilt.

In time, bolstered by the confidence of trusted friends, I came to throw off many of those burdens. Others remain and always shall. I accept this as inevitable, and use the weight to guide my future steps.

This, I believe, is the true purpose of conscience."

I think his excerpts are really good, Salvatore is quite a philosphical fellow isn't he. Speaking of Salvatore Im a bit annoyed ato the moment I have recently read the first 6 books but I cannot find any of 'The Legacy of the Drow' collection and really need a good read

I really like the excerpts too. The one about respect was definitely one of my favorites. Unlike some of the people around here, I like Drizz't just the way he is and would like his stories to continue.

I like them. Have finished the exile series and am reading Legacy at the moment. Icewind Dale will possibly be next or the one after the next book. :D They are a window into Drizzt's mind, something we don't get as much of in the 'story' because he's usually swinging those scimitars about not philosophizing to his buddies the dwarves and such. ;)

hey, you HAVE TO read The Icewind Dale Triology, it is simply THE most exciting adventure around, even better than this one :D well, a little bit better at least ... ^^
