i've been playing bg2 for a while now, and recently started over (becaus my char was really screwed. a paladin with a familiar...), and now i have decided to play a good-evil combination party.
the first thing i did was go and get edwin O. now, he was a level 9 mage when he started with me, and should have maybe one level 5 spell, but this guy had 5!. and not only that, he had a whopping 7 lvl1, 6 lvl2&3 and 5 lvl4's as well. then he gained a lvl. where it normally says "mage spells gained : 1st, 2nd, 4th, etc.", it now said "mage spells", and edwin didn't get any new spells. does anybody have any idea what's up with that? Welcome mrxian to the IWF. Can I suggest you edit your post to take out "f" word. The moderators do not take to kindly to that.
Sorry I can't help you with Edwin. I never use him. |
Yeah that 'F' word kind of stuck out to me too. Anyway, I never use him, but my brother has, and from what I gathered there are two things that are different about him from the start. He has a necklace on him... I don't know what it's called, I think it's just called Edwin's Necklace or Edwin's Amulet... but I'm pretty sure that has something to do with his powers... for he really is more powerful than other mages, I've done testing. The other little item that does some stuff is that nether scroll... but people know what that can do, I guess.

It's a common bug,
where edwin starts out with more spell-slots than he should have ... What then happens, is at the next level-up, no extra spells are gained, and sometimes spell-slots were even deducted. Baldurdash has a fix for it, but i think the end-result is allways the same, so it shouldnt be a real problem ... eventually you'll get the right amount of spell-slots of each lvl. 2 or 3 more than any regular mage i believe, 1 extra 'cause he's a specialist and 1 or 2 (dont recall exactly) from his amulet. hope it helpz |
thanks, daan, that helped.
apart from his irritating character, i think that edwin is a great mage! he's level 11, has 8 lvl 1, 7 lvl2&3, 6 lvl 4 and 5 spells! somehow, it seems an awfull lot. if it's all from his amulet and specialization, the amulet would give him two spell slots of each level (very good item). btw, what's wrong with the f word? it's not used in an insulting or provocative way, nor can people take offense from it with any self-respect. i have changed it, but i don't know if my change has changed it for the better.... the problem is that i don't know how to change it further without destroying the meaning of my words (or diminishing their strength). |
Um might I suggest a theasurs or a dictionary then.
|
And maybe a test for torretes.

could someone explain the word "thesaurus" to me? my english is quite excellent for a dutchman, but i don't understand that word.
|
i had simliar opposite problem with valygar... when i first took him he was supposed to have spells but he didnt have any,,, then when he levelled up he got the missing spells and is okay now.
|
Dont forget he is a specialist mage the only single class mage in the game, specialist mage's gain an extra spell slot on spell lvl per level up at the expense of not being able to memorise spells or the opposite school of magic, for Edwin I think its Divination spells he cannot cast
