how about a new rule being added here??
since HTML is enabled....
to ensure that no one reads spoilers accidentally here, all spoilers have to be put in "invisible" text..... ie, the colour of text is same as that of the background... that way the only way to read the text (the spoiler) is by highlighting the text.... this way no one will see the spoiler accidentally...

to write text in "invisible" mode use this HTML tag

<font color="#3C301A">Your text</font>

below is an example highlight the text to read it:
<font color="#3C301A">this is an example of hidden text

it can be used to write spoilers so no one will read them accidentally

the colour of text is same as background

it has to be highlighted to be read..</font>

Sounds good to me, only possible problem would be if a newbie comes they wouldn't know and would see line after line of blank space.

Redblueflare 02-21-2002 11:57 AM

You know I would've never thought about that! Good idea! The problem is that not everyone is going to know, or remember html code.

Sorry, but I disagree with the idea. I think the current rule is sufficient. Most members are very good about giving SPOILER warnings and then "spacing down" far enough to keep the information off the screen.

The only time this doesn't work is when a member includes information that they may not realize is a SPOILER. And changing the text color won't prevent that.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea (it isn't), I just don't see the need for it.

<font color=skyblue>Now, I am going to have the mentality of thinking that everytime I see a large space that somebody is sneaking in secret invisible sentences, like Larry is a Loon or stuff like that! I will have to highlight every single post ever made just to make sure there is no secret communication going on around here!
Grrr..... :( </font>

<font color="#3C301A">Hehe...I made you look!!!
See what the power of persuasion and manipulative ideas can have over people??</font>

Well, I'm new here, I've been browsing through alln these threads, and more than once a spoiler did catch my I and i ended up knowing information I did not want to know.... I couldnt help it....

i agree with you though, It might be that the implementation of the idea is less practical... and doing this might create more problems than solving it... but i think it will be good... well?

I agree that it was a good idea. I just feel it would be a lot of unnecessary extra work for the Poster to "hide" their text. As I mentioned, MOST members are very good about giving sufficient warnings.

Then again, I don't mind SPOILERS...I read every Walkthrough I can find so that I know what to expect from a new area. I was about halfway through BGI before I ever found my first "Walkthrough" website. I found out that I had missed a LOT of stuff and had to do a tremendous amount of backtracking to pick up items I had missed.

But, PLEASE, keep your ideas coming. "Newbies" often give a fresh perspective on old topics and come up with innovative ideas that others might not think of. New suggestions are always welcome, so don't be shy.

Oh, BTW.......

You could just press <font color="#3C301A">CTRL + A</font> and then scroll down the page and see if there are any hidden messages...

By the way I think it is a good idea but it won't catch on cause either lazy people (like me) won't bother with the code. or newbies wont know how to use it.

There are two backgrounds, one a little darker than the other. So you'd 'need' two codes and time each one according to the number of posts in the thread.

LOL, yeah, it might be a bit painful to have to do this all the time. But it would certainly be a lot more foolproof. It depends what kind of lengths we want to go to to prevent spoiling.

<font color="#3C301A">Larry is silly and he uses a silly font colour. Nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah!</font>
