In a thread that wast recently posted sombody (I think it was Magik) mentioned that N. Korea had The Worlds 4th Largest Army.

That got me wondering who was the 5/10/Somthing largest armys. I would think America had the largest,maybe.Maybe not. But whos next?

Can anyone give this information?

China has the largest army, then I think its US, Russia, NK, Iraq or Iran?

I think Australia has quite a large one also.

China has a huge army, well disaplined though maybe not that well equiped

Actually I did not say that North Korea had the worlds 4th largest army. What I did say in response to someone worrying about the size of the North Korean military and how we better not piss them off cause they were so large....is that we all saw what happened to the 4th largest army when they faced the forces of the west in the Gulf War.....at the time Iraq boasted the 4th largest army.


China probably has the largest in sheer number, the USA has the largest in sheer brute force, followed by Russia after that I dont know.

Rikard recent defense reports (via Janes) say that while china has a huge armed forces, for the most part they are poorly trained and poorly equipped. The discipline is the same as we saw in Iraq...ie. YOU WILL SERVE THE PEOPLE OR YOU WILL BE SHOT! The core divisions are at the other extreme, well trained, disciplined and equiped...but the majority of their forces are not like this at all.

Now only an idiot would ever go head to head with China in a land war (a line from the princess bride comes to mind) However we saw just how inneffective sheer numbers of men are in the gulf war...where "well trained troops" were surrendering to camera men and reporters.
