Just today in the Australian Open (Tennis) in the men's semi-final doubles one of the players (can't remember name) smashed this ball over the net and accidently smacks into a poor bird. It falls to the court dead :( . I mean what are the chances of this happening!!! :(

Something like that happened in a Dutch football-match once. Can't remember which teams it were, or when it was. Long time ago. But anyway, one of the players, I believe it was one of the goalkeepers, kicks the ball pretty high up into the air, and hits a seagull. This bird didn't survive too.

I believe it was Patrick Lodewijks, when he was still keeper at FC Groningen. ;)

The Australians managed to kill two birds in one day during a cricket match against India in London in 1999. The first was from a throw which pinged a low flying pigeon, the second was from a shot by one of the batmen which picked off a pigeon on the ground.

I think it might have been dale earnhart a few years back smacked a seagull at 180 mph on the back straight at Daytona.

Wasn't much left of the bird.

The worst I've done is hit a Canada Goose in the butt with a 9 iron shot (on the ground)... got him moving but no permanent damage.

I think it can be concluded that birds and sports do not mix. Except in golf, when you want to get a "birdie". ;) Or in badminton.

Poor birds. I know it was an accident, but that's a heckuva way to go out. :(
