I want a message board and I dont have any money to buy one and I have little knowledge of starting one. It would need to have SIGS and MEMBER RANKINGS.

Where do I get one from?

Melusine 12-01-2001 09:59 AM

Well, first of all, didn't you just make an advertisment for one that you already have? If you already have the xsorbit one, why ask this question? If you cannot spend any money on it, free xsorbit boards are about as good as you can get.
Second, what's wrong with this one? Seriously, the only way in which it is lucrative to start up a forum is when you're SURE people will want to become a member. Forums that get set up because someone needs a powertrip usually don't last long. What would you offer on your forum that would make it interesting for people?
Thrid - you don't need sigs, people usually make their own. Xsorbit boards have a limited amount of standard smileys - why not use those? They serve the purpose well enough.

Thanks Mel. I like this one. I just thought that I would like to make my own. I think I'll stick with XSORBIT. I've found out that html code works on it so that should be fine for what I want. Thanks

That's right, you can also use xUBBC tags, with which you can do some nice stuff like adding glow and shadow to letters.

How much would UBB cost do you think? Or anything similar with smiles and stuff? I would love a decent one.

Melusine 12-01-2001 10:36 AM

Like I said, Barb, only even think about it if you're SURE you have something to offer the members that they cannot get on other forums, not just because you 'wannahave'.
As for the cost, I think that is best answered by any of the people here that own a non-free forum...

It's a lot of money to maintain, Barb. Which is why we should thank Ziroc for doing this one for us!

I'd email Ziroc to get an answer on the exact amount.

Thanks you two. I'll pm Ziroc later. First i'll try the link I just found at the bottom of the page.

Erm, 200 dollar-ish for an official license I'm afraid. So much for your UBB plans, Barb. Unless you just won the lottery or have a very rich dad... ;)
