I have a simple question:what would you do if someone started a thread in GD in their own language, say in my example,in dutch? There are many dutch people here who would understand what would be said there, and some things, like poems, are very difficult to translate.I have no intentions of starting such a thread now,but i was just wondering what's your view on this??

As long as you keep it to one thread, and in the subject just say (in Dutch) or something, that is totally cool with me!

One concern that Moderators would have is the fact that we cannot control any flaming or pornagraphic material that one might bring into the forum in that language. Since we Moderate in English, and a few of us can keep an eye on things in Spanish, but we will not be able to help you if a Dutch Troll comes on and decides to cause trouble to all Dutch.
You, of course, would make a complaint against that bad person, and then, since we do not read Dutch, we would have to take your word for it. What if it wasn't that bad...but the protestors acted like it was?
We might ban somebody without just cause...
It could get messy, but in the end...if Ziroc said do it...and he did...then don't hesitate, unless I brought up a particular point of view that you agree with.

We used to have a Greek thread a short while ago which was pretty good but as Larry_OHF said, it is very hard to moderate a thread like that.
I think it is a good idea though

Oh, heck, one can always pass the page through Babelfish and get an idea of what's going on! :D I have to do that quite frequently when reading through German and Scandinavian pages on the Germanic and Norse myths and legends.

Cheers,

Very good point you brought up there.
I remember a certain thread back on BGDungeon, when someone decided to post a christmas story he wrote in dutch. Problem only was that it was sexual, discriminating, racist and very bad written as well. Many people (mainly Dutchies) were disgusted (myself included) and started complaining, but in the almost administratorless environment of the way too big BGDungeon board, it took almost two months before the thread was deleted and the poster of that story banned. Unfortunately, in those two months, there were several heated discussions whether it was allowed to post in a foreign language or not, ending up in a lot of small riots and several people behaving way out of line. Not that there's any chance that would happen over here of course, the # of members is not as big, moderators have clearer places to focus on and trolls are normally being dealt with within a few hours (and, most of all, the administrator of this place is actually around on critical moments(!), it took him even 2 days to realize the server was full and no one was able to post anymore in those days).
