Am I wasting a spell slots with variations of silence? It seems that it usually takes effect for me, but the darn wizards always, ALWAYS go ahead and cast vocalize immediately afterwards. They do NOT have it in a contingency, they cast it. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't you need to be able to speak to cast vocalize? It seems that vocalize is something that needs to be cast BEFORE a battle. I must be missing something. I also do not think that they have items that allow them to cast vocalize as an ability...I would have picked those up. Let me know. Maybe I should be keeping a vocalize spell in my pocket, if you truly don't need to speak to cast it.

vocalize is one of the few spells that has no verbal component, so can be cast when silenced or deaf anytime. I think magic missile is the same way. Think about it: if vocalize ended silence, but could be silenced, wouldn't it be kinda pointless?

I never use silence. Breach+Beatdown works better, IMHO.

It just seems to me that certain spells should be considered preemptive. For example, you can't get shot with an acid arrow and then cast protection from acid. Well, you could, but you would already have been damaged by the acid. If you suspect you are going into a fight with acid shooters, then you cast protection from acid. Likewise, as the spell description suggests, if you are anticipating a need for quiet, or if you suspect a mage battle coming up and hence the possibility of being silenced, then you should preemptively cast vocalize. That way if you DO get silenced you'll be okay because you don't need to speak anyway. And also in the spell description it says that vocalize REMOVES the verbal component from other spells. It does NOT say that it has no verbal component. Somebody out there has to see what I'm saying...or perhaps you all just think I'm an idiot not worth responding to, which may be true Perhaps my conception of the spell is faulty. Perhaps I am visualizing it as a sort of protection from silence, when in fact what the Balrog Lord says is true, that you don't need to speak to cast vocalize. It's like a Jeanie thing...just cross your arms, nod your head quickly and blink.

I don't think the game needs yet another "Protection from ---"...
It works just fine, because you lose time in combat to cast it, when you could have used it as a protection and then be able to launch that Breach immediately

Amulet of power on your lead mage (Like you have any other?) and hes got permanent vocalize. Heh heh heh. And you really only need on high-power mage per battle, if were being honest.
