I needed to share my greatest theiving achievement ever!! Usually I get nabbed trying to thieve something from a merchant and up until tonight the best thing I ever nabbed was a Rogue Stone that I had just sold to a merchant in the Docks area...
Tonight I took the gold in the Stolen Goods Olympics. I don't know what happened! My PC is a Level 13 Bounty Hunter with pertinent stats as follows: Pickpockets: 80% Hide Shadow: 72% Move Silent: 70% Check out this list of stolen goods I took from the Western Merchant in Trademeet (the one with the +3 bow that requires no ammo) : :D ~ Martial Staff +3 ~ +2 Light Crossbow ~ Cloak of Displacement ~ +2 Dagger ~ +2 Bullets (Qty: 6 at 542G a pop thats savings you can't deny!) ~ Staff of Striking AND ~ Belt of Inertial Barrier! ~ Ras the +2 Long Sword AKA the Dancing Blade ~ Long Sword +2 ~ Arrows of Piercing (Qty: 3) And to boot I sold back all the equipment I replaced after re-equipping myself. I have like a whole new party now and I had to go dig up a fight just to see my people in action. I can't imagine this kind of success at stealing is normal but I did get caught eventually after my attempt at stealing the last quarrel of Arrows of Piercing. Of course I Quicksaved after every successful steal and I couldn't get the +3 Club of Acid or the Dwarven Thrower. I could barely use all of these items I had to sell some of it back. Thanks! Just had to share this good good day to be a thief! I might never be able to play another character again after this thief. and by the way... hey to everybody. What a great forum for BG2! have never seen one forum so well populated about ONE game! glad to be here. |
Yep, it's normal. :D One of the earliest cheeses ever posted after BG2 was released on various posts was the note that you could wrack up a fortune stealing and reselling goods to the Thieves' Guild, while stealing and/or buying the best stuff outside of a few merchants that didn't allow it. It's not a cheat, since it's in the game mechanics. It is a matter of unbalance, and taking advantage of it is far too easy. So is the result. I get no pleasure out of circumventing a game's rules and a real zing out of winning by whatever conditions the developers set--but that's just me. You buy it, you can do with it as you like. ;)

I think I might ask you to do the shopping for me next time I go to Trademeet...for a split of the profits of course. I'm fair enough, but I get the better spoils.

Hmmm perhaps i should actually use the pickpocket ability....
