I saw Hearts in Atlantis this weekend and thought it was pretty good (as a first installment anyway). But, usually, I'm not too crazy about movies made from books I've read (Battlefield Earth, for example).

Just wondering if I'm the only one who is usually disappointed.

Carpenter films from King books are my biggest gripe. Tho' I like the movies themselves (even if they are kinda cheesy), I can't fully enjoy it because I see all the inconsistencies from the book.

I've heard that the movie Dune in particular is supposed to be very, very bad when you compare its plot with the book's plot. Anybody seen Dune? I haven't. I also generally avoid movies where I've read the book.

the best book into film i ever have seen was 'the name of the rose' by umberto eco.

the next best has to be 'bladerunner' known by another title, something like do androids dream of electric sheep by philip K dick. this one was far, far better than the book. in fact totally amazing. and it's sci fi which name of the rose isn't.

Alrighty then...

Kaz - I've seen Dune and loved the movie (but I haven't read the book yet and am sure I will probably not like the movie after I read the book). I, like you, hear nothing but complaints about the movie from those who read the book. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif

Tracey - I LOVE both of those movies!!! There are exceptions to the rule to be sure. It's just very disappointing that too many books are butchered in the movie-making process.

www - No, I haven't read Baldur's Gate, but I fully intend to. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

I have read the Dune series and the movies (yes the old one and the recent remake)doesn't copare to the books the books are much better. The same thing with Battlefield Earth great book but 1000 pages long. They butchered it to put it into a movie.

Books are usually much better than films. I much prefer a good book to a film. But then many people call me weird....

couldn't agree more Sorcerer Alex. I'm usually in a 500-600 page book http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif many consider me strange and excentric(sp?) Books are just so much more forfilling to go through than a movie and you can reread the parts you didn't get.

Absolutely http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

Plus, in a book you feel much closer to the characters, you really get involved in their lives and it lasts for so much longer than a film. Glad to see there are other weirdos around http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif
