In searching this area I have run into a women who is hysterical and crying about a jar ... we take the jar, she dies and a genie is released...I can't get through his protective shield...low level and such. no Missiles...any ideas?

Well, you can use wands against him, and i think just melee weapons worked fine.

I know the fight, it is against an Ogre Mage.

To get past the barrier,use Melee tactics.Get close and pummel.Try and animate dead,or create monsters.

Spells lv 1-3 wont work.

Or if you are far in the game,go to Summer Sundries and buy an arrow of slaying.That will kill it in one shot.

I know who u mean, just tell her to give the jar to you, she'll say know and say some cursed voodoo word or summat, and then kick her ass! or, u can just kick her as b4 speaking to her! Make sure you have some summon whatever spells on you, and animate dead... Just like Lavindathar said!

I believe you can dispel the antimagic shield as well, no? Could be wrong, did this part about 2 years ago when the game first came out... and haven't gotten to it in my current game.

yes, 'dispell magic' works fine

or summon some monsters - so that the oger mage is occupied - and wait till the shield expires

or casts protective spell on a char / or let the char drink an anti-magic potion and play 'catch me' with this char (till shield vanishs too), this char will have to receive some magic missiles

Use your thief go to stealth mode after the dialogue move the rest of your party away and wait for the protection spell to wear off

I think I am too puny at the moment...she has wandered off, so maybe I will find her again and then kill the orgre thing. I like the idea of letting the protection wear off. May try that. Once an NPC wanders away, is it possible to run into them again? Can't find her right now...?

It's not usually possible to get a NPC back again. She is probably gone. At least that has been my experience. I used the melee tactic and it worked well.
The Ogre mage isn't that strong. I was at lv=5 hen I met up with him last.
