1) I completed Ust Natha and returned the real dragon egg's to Adalon and she teleported me to the exit. Now i'd like to try to kill her (i was told i'll get some useful items) so i returned to her cave but she's not there anymore. A bug or what?
2) How to kill a dragon at the first place? I found two dragons in the game so far, Fikraag or whatever and a Dragon-with-a-long-name-starting-with-letter-T and i couldn't kill them. Maybe because i was at low level. Now which spells should be casted on me before and which on the dragon in during the battle? |
1) I think you have to kill Adalon before she teleports you out. But you shouldn't kill her anyway unless you're evil.
2) How to kill a dragon: Be very careful and have loads of healing on hand. Use plenty of ranged weapons if you're fairly low level, if you can afford them arrows of dispelling work well. Cast the mage spell lower resistance (or something like that) on the dragon before the fight starts (more than once if possible, I like to start the fight with two mages casting this simultaneously then both of the casting it again later in the fight). Cast haste, chant, resist fear and any other protective spells you can think of on your party BEFORE the battle. Melf's minute meteors is a great spell for your mages to use during the fight. Two of the dragons found in the game start off a s nuetral characters and won't attack until you attack them. This gives you a chance to cast protective spells before the fight. it also gives you a head start with offensive spells since the dragon won't go hostile until the spell hits them. Above all, I wish you good luck. |
Another good spell tactic is to have Jaheira cast Magic Resistance on the dragon.
WHAT? GIVE it Magical Resistance? YES...because... 1) it is NOT an offensive spell, so the dragon won't go hostile, and... 2) it adjusts the Magic Resistance to 2%/level of caster....so this will actually LOWER most dragons Magic Resistance without making them angry. |
Don't forget Greater Malison and [some]weapon immunity spells if yer a mage! Negative Plane Prot. if VS. Thax'asillia(sp?) too for its Shadow Dragon Breath. Painful experience tells this, since you can get 9 level drains at once if your unlucky. Prot. Fire if VS Firkraag.

Arent we all forgeting something ...... TRAPS!!!! ok a BIT cheesy but not a bad way to start off the fight.

All of these r pretty good strategies..But arent u making the game a little bit to much trial and error...i play a single Mage and have done so for quit a while (Lv 31 ToB installed, no cheat). Maybe im just talkin out of how i play..using random spells at creatures just because i like a good fight. But as some of these ppl have said. a spell i have found useful is massinvisibilty if u r using a party. Cloak every1 and then u run out with the mages, cast lower resistance, use time stop before if u got it. And then just let the fun begin. With the Dragons magic resistance lowerd all of your spells will strike and do damage. Doing a Mage Vs Dragon 1 vs 1 using non necromancy battle spells r so much fun that is freaky ! Area effect spells always work...but they r booring..
Stop using the same patterns ppl ! Fight the dragons like men ! As for Adalon..shes a white Dragon, White = Ice. Fire = Superb effect vs ice creatures ! Now u go figure it out =) |
Minor Fix: Adalon's a silver dragon.(arrogant, but self-pronounced creature of light)
As for fighting dragons like men, what is that supposed to mean? Mages cast their arsenal of spells any way they choose right? Of course there's beating creatures with tons o low spells like fire arrow, or just a couple of D. Fireballs etc. etc. Ever tried Greater Malison + Black Blade of Disaster? There's 1 on 1 for you without area spells... |
well i know if you cast skeletons and so ....
the dragon will attack them first so you cast a skeleton spider and so ... and the dragon will be busy with them , mean while you can hack and slash on her |
Mordenkainen's Swords work wonders against dragons. Cast a couple and send them close, but not next to each other, to protect at least one from the dreaded Wing Buffet. Since the swords are immune to physical damage, only breath weapons can do anything. Since they are real close, the stupid dragons will try unsuccessfully to beat a floating sword to death, leaving you to magic missile it to death, if you're feeling adventurous.
Silly Dragons. :D |
IIRC Mordenkanins sword isnt affected by ANYTHING unless u lower its resistance....
