I got the two halfs of the Rift Device but it wont go together! Can someone help me here?

That sounds like a bug.

As soon as you pick up the second half of the device in the Unseeing Eye Beholder lair, the two halves should automatically fuse to form the Rift Device....

Well, I guess that's up to you. You definitely need the complete Rift Device to complete the Unseeing Eye quest....

try loading your game, droping the item, save, load, then pick the item up
