Below are some of the pithy phrases we women substitute for the truth when jettisoning romantic partners who have (apparently) ceased to be both romantic and partners — accompanied by the real meaning behind the words:

It's not you, it's me. (It is sooo you. Oh boy, is it ever you! If you were totally different I might want you, but since you are you, forget it. Being with your you-ness for the rest of my life is too terrible to contemplate.)

I think of you as a friend. (I don't want to have sex with you.)

The age difference is a problem. ("Pops, what was Abraham Lincoln really like?")

I'm not attracted to you in that way. (Hon, you are seriously unappealing.)

My life is too complicated right now. (I thought it might work initially, but I was wrong.)

I'm getting back together with my old boyfriend. (I'd rather stay home alone watching Barney Miller re-runs than spend another evening with you.)

I need to focus on my career right now. (Yes, stapling/filing/mopping/working a cash register — all that is more enticing than the prospect of being with you.)

I'm not ready for a relationship right now. (Your utterly unappealing self has made me re-examine whether I want to ever have intercourse again.)

Let's just be friends. (Please stay around to kill bugs in my apartment and help me move while I regale you with teary stories about how much I yen for the other men I'll be dating.)

Hey LOL I have used some of these! Let me clarify if I may http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

It's not you, it's me. It was me.

I think of you as a friend. (I don't want to have sex with you.) Change the word "friend" to "brother". http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

The age difference is a problem. I have never dated a man who was more than 5 years older than me so I never had to use it LOL.

I'm not attracted to you in that way. (Hon, you are seriously unappealing.) Add the words "to me" after unappealing and you have the truth...it doesn't mean that every woman alive will see you the same way.

My life is too complicated right now. It was!

I'm getting back together with my old boyfriend. The girl is a loser who deserves the old loser! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

I need to focus on my career right now. I am not available to answer to your whim at the hours during which I usually sleep...if you can't respect the fact that I work and like/need my job, you need to look elsewhere.

I'm not ready for a relationship right now. I wasn't!

Let's just be friends. (Please stay around to kill bugs in my apartment and help me move while I regale you with teary stories about how much I yen for the other men I'll be dating.) True, and if you happen to know auto mechanics, you can be my BEST Friend because I don't like to get my hands dirty!

Remember guys, some of these statements deserve answers if you want to question her and ask what does she mean by...not only will it make you look a little more caring in her eyes, but it could enlighten you to the fact that she is having a hard time in life and you are not making it easy on her! If she doesn't want to work with you around her own problems, she has more or will create more problems than you need so walk away happy that you got off that easy! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

ohhh cmon, i don't think a woman can haave a guy best friend. To me a woman only keeps a guy as a "Best friend" to be the just in case guy.
*U know...
Just in case i turn old and i haven't met anybody yet
Just in case this guy iam dating is a comlete loser
Or "just in case"

But i do have a best friend that's a girl cuz i don't really mind being the "just in case" guy http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/hihi.gif

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Aw, Moni, you're just trying to make those of us who have heard these feel better. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

Perhaps if you put it on a little thicker and told us how we are the best thing that ever happened to the species, we would have no choice but to believe you. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/noncgi/smiles/485.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

Norstrom,

You know I had a guy think he was so totally in love with me that he moved near wherever I did just so he could be my neighbor? He proposed to me at least once a year and I always insisted we don't ruin what I felt was a great friendship that would go bad if we ever got involved (he was just too effeminate as much a man as he was and it bothered me~"it was me" lol)

I never asked him to kill bugs for me lol but he did teach me how to do my own electrical repairs in my home.

After seven years of maintaining a close friendship, much laughter and a few tears, this guy met the girls of his dreams and married her the next Valentine's Day. He thanked me for sticking with him as a friend and for not taking him up on his proposal (which I would have done if I were just out for financial support~this guy is and always will be loaded!) if I had, it would have ruined his chances with the woman he really loved.

She on the other hand, had a jealous streak where our close friendship was concerned and destroyed the artwork of mine that he had in his house and forbid him to ever see me again. Knowing her, and knowing how much the two of them loved each other, it was not a problem for me to honor her wishes but I do miss the good times we had together.

I told the truth as I know it here. I don't know how to put it on any thicker lol, (eyelas-bat to prove what I just said http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif )!
I think that men ARE the best thing that ever happened to the species...if it were only women on this planet, I would be awfully lonely!
