If you are a mage/sorcerer, and complete the quest about the sphere, you will be given it to you, then you will get some apprentices, but I am not telling any more, you will find out by yourself if you ever play a mage.

servants..eh?
It depends on you, how you call them and if you want you can have "servants" in most of your stronghold (Sir Ryan Trawl, my servant) but actually you only have servants in the d'Arnise Keep. You get apprentices in the sphere, fellow knights at the order and a pack of rogues in your guild

You get a golem who acts as a roaming servant (no real purpose for you), and up to three apprentices, depending upon how many survive the three item-making tasks you give them.

Note that if you choose the hardest item on any of the three occasions, at least one of your apprentices will die (whether they succeed in making the item, or not). If all three are alive after the item trials, you get a special experience bonus. If some are alive, you receive a smaller bonus; if all have died, you get nothing. The survivor(s) will come back later and work for you, producing several potions at random every week.

Actually the golem is quite useful in at least one instance. I happened to leave it standing in the first room in the sphere knowing nothing of the attack by that Lord who hates magic. When he jumped me with his goons later on, I walked over to my golem (I was hasted) and told it to protect me by following me around. He immediately started attacking some enemies and kept them preoccupied while I pulverized the others. In my case, it turns out I didn't need the golem's help, I was way overpowered compared to the enemies but it was my first time at that stage in the game so I had no idea how powerful they were and I figured better safe than sorry.
