This has Battlestar Galactica written all over it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhZQEvg1V0Y :D

And you've JUST found that? It's atleast two years old, already.
Sadly, the game was shutdown.

Shutdown? To quote the great Johnny T: ,,That's a damn shame''. I recently dug up the original Nexus. Truly an awesome game.

Holy crap, that is bad ass. :( All the best developers are killed off.. :(

So is the first one almost as good? Is there multiplayer?

Dreamer128 12-17-2006 06:37 AM

Yes, there is multiplayer, although I haven't tried it. The singleplayer campaign is pure gold though. Not only are the graphics far more beautiful then the images presented on the official website (http://www.nexusthegame.com/index.ht...&fotopageid=12) , the storyline is a real work of art. The combat can be a bit chaotic, but that is about the only downside.

That is impressive. So where is this demo? Or is this trailer the demo being referred to? Anyone have the link to the official site?

VERY Battlestar Galactica like. You know they saw it and used that camera effect for the demo--and it's a major pain to make a 'game camera' to pull off a cinematic camera feel--and they did a great job at it! Hell, a realistic 'shake' is hard to make look real in a 3D Engine..

I bet it was a gpu hog, that may be why they canned it.

With the advent of nVidias 8800GTX, it might be worthwhile pushing for them to reopen the project.

Very nice, I'm sure that source code won't go to waste if it's far enough along that the video was in-game footage.

Looks to me like X3:Reunion with updated graphics. It's the only space game I've ever played that had such intense large scale engagements. Only downside of such scale is processor demand. My system (athlon 64 with a 7800gtx) bogged pretty badly when the engagement size exceeded 80 ships or so. In one battle I took on an entire sector worth of Xenon (bad guys), hundreds of ships, maybe 40 capital ships. I was getting update rates of 1-2 fps, too slow to do anything other than supervise.

It's a total blast to take a fast manuverable fighter into the middle of a capital fleet engagement and really just spectate (and pic off some of the smaller craft) as the behemoths go at it. It would be even more fun if the small ships had the abiltiy to attack specific cap ship targets like laser turrets and such. (it looks like that would be possible in Nexus)

You wanna know what a blast is in the X universe? In X2, taking a Paranid Perseus, outfitting it with three BPSGs, and then go stirr up some trouble in Xenon or Khaak space. "Incoming badguys... two kilometers... one point seven... one point four... one point one... OPEN FIRE!" And after draining your weapon energy in seven long and laggy seconds, you find yourself in the middle of nothing, as even the debris was cleaned away by the PSGs. And with proper aim, even capships were no match to tripple BPSGs.
OR
You could take a Paranid Pegasus(the Paranid have the best ships, IMHO), and zip around going 1019m/s.
Ah... memories...
