OK I decided to play Warcraft 2 once again. Installed on my laptop (using windows XP), runs fine, except for choppy movies (??), the only problem is...
... scrolling is waaaaay too fast. I move the mouse to the edge of the screen and it moves right to the other end of the map. I set the scroll speed to 'lowest' of course. I also tried changing its compatibility to windows 95 and all. Is there anything I could do? Any help would be appreciated. btw, this is the regular version of Warcraft 2 and its expansion Beyond the Dark Portal, not the new battle.net edition one. |
You managed to install WCII onto XP without the use of Dosbox??? Please tell me how you did it? I have WCII installed, but it is used in conjunction with Dosbox.
Are you using an optical mouse? I don't know how, but that might cause a bit of the problem seeing as it is "faster" than your typical ball mouse that was used back then. |
Tried changing the scrolling in control panel to lower for the game? Is it a USB or PS/2 mouse?

Fraif you are going to have to find one of those programs that slows down your PC, its not the mouse thats the problem, its your PC, anything over about 400Mhz will do it :(

Problem solved. I used DosBox. (never heard about DosBox before )
Yes initially I managed to install it without Dosbox . Just installed it :D . I did try one of those programs that slow down the PC, but they would slow down not only scrolling speed but also gameplay and music, making it even worse. Then I found DosBox, can't believe I hadn't heard of it before. Problem solved. Game runs just as it should. Problem of choppy movies solved too. Also managed to run some other DOS games that wouldn't run before. |
i had the same problem when i used windows 98, but i soon got used to it scrolling fast. is dosbox just like dos?
|
search for it in google.. it works like a charm with alot of old games

BNE fixes the scrolling problems (as well as some other, lesser things), plus it adds BNet online... DOSBox is okay, but it's nicer to just be able to run a game natively, I think.
