anyone here gonna get this?
i've been waiting for this game a long time, and hear that the xbox version will be in stores in the next day or two. the pc version should be out soon after. just in time for halloween :D anyway, i think an HP Lovecraft story was one of the first scary stories i ever read (besides hansel and gretel)... the case of charles dexter ward... if you want to read it, or any other HPL short story: http://www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/ here's the official forums: http://callofcthulhu.com/forums/index.php? here's the site: http://www.callofcthulhu.com/ V***V |
I remember reading about this for the PS2 WAAAY back in 2000, and thinking "Wow, this looks kickass". Until I saw it here, I had completely forgotten about it. Weird. Shame it's for xbox only though.

it's coming out on pc, too. but bethsoft hasn't actually given the date yet. and some of the game devs on the headfirst/CoC forums are saying, without actually saying, that pc development and xbox development went hand in hand.
definitely no ps2, tho. V***V |
I read Lovecrafts books a decade ago or so, and is currevtly in the process of re-reading them. They're entertaining but are just a bit "too much" at times.
Anyway, as for the CoC, I've been waiting for it as well. It's been in development for a long time now. |
*sighs*
i've had to abandon the official Cthulhu forums. there's waaaay too many spoilers thru out the whole place. stuff i don't wanna know till i play. but it seems to be very lovecraftian, difficult puzzles and is scaring the pants off players. YAY! now, to wait for bethsoft's announcement for the pc version. V***V |
I'm a bit skeptical to see Lovecraft translated into a video game to be honest. I just don't see how the cosmic grandeur and sheer power of the man's prose can be conveyed convincingly into a game without it feeling like it merely has his name and mythos slapped on to it.
Most of the films based on Lovecraft for example are utter tripe imho if but for the amusing hysterical antics of Jeffery Combs. :D @ Stratos - You can never get too much Lovecraft. That is unless of course, you go mad in the process of reading him which is part of the HP experience, I guess. [ 11-08-2005, 06:35 AM: Message edited by: CerebroDragon ] |

i know!!! i tried to talk headfirst into including the cthulhu plushie with the game. *sighs* it was a no go.
i've got to admit i've been peeping over my bf's shoulder since he got CoC xbox version yesterday. the game DOES do justice to HPL's world. everything, from the way the game looks (grainy and brown like an old silent film), to the residents of innsmouth, down to the way jack slowly discovers the hidden horrors residing in the seaport. the fact that you need to sneak your way around, rather than bash everyone in sight is a big plus in my book (rabid thiefsie fan). also, it looks like he's still playing and hasn't found a weapon yet. did i mention that, depending on jack's reactions to situations, he feels faint, his vision blurs, his heart rate and breathing increase and if he gets injured, he really slows down. gah! i gotta stop watching him play! i'm spoiling my own self. V***V |
