Greetings!

I have just created a new monk to go through BG2 for the second time (last time I was a mage). The stats I cam up with were:

STR 18
DEX 18
CON 18
WIS 11
INT 11
CHA 11

I've read that a higher wisdom may have some effect on AC -- is it significant? Any other benefits to a higher wisdom score?

Also, someone wrote that there's no benefit above a CON of 16 -- true?

Any other helpful hints for starting/playing as a monk?

Gracias!

Wisdom has effect on some saving throws (against domination and such), but not on AC. ABout con, i think that non-fighter characters dont get any benefit for con above 16, but i dont know if the monk is a fighter or not. If his strenght is 18 and not 18/XX, then i guess he isnt, and that his con should be 16. Anyway, wait to hear some more opinions than mine

I cant give you other tips because ive never played as a monk :(

unless you are a fighter, it is un-neccesary to put more than 16 into constitution.

What Ertai_OHF said is correct, Wisdom won't affect AC, and you don't need anymore that 16 in Con. If you are going solo, or don't care about NPC reactions, I wouldn't put much in Charisma, just use the ring when buying things. The second Monk I made had 16 (IIRC) in Wisdom and I noticed that he can cast a few spells from scrolls (mostly useless) and use wands. Whether or not this is due to the high Wisdom, I don't know.

I would definetely pick up a +3 weapon for him to use until lvl 15, and I would also pick up the flame sword to finish of trolls. If you have the bonus merchant pack, you can buy the Scarlett Ninja-to which is a +3 sword that delivers poison if not saved. (I personally didn't care for the sword; it's extremely expensive, and too often the troll lying on the ground would keep making his saving throws and eventually pop back up for more.)

Also, early on it is a good idea to pick up the bracers AC3 until your natural AC surpasses that.

You can eventually pick up some gauntlets of crushing after you leave Spellhold that grant you +4 to hit and +4 to damage. I can't remember the specifics of how to get them, but I've seen the info on one thread or another.

Also, don't be shy about using the Stunning Blow and the Quivering Palm, they can be saved against, but they can make quite a difference in a fight.
(Theres nothing like seeing an Iron Golem drop on one punch)

Have fun!

Thank you! I used Shadowkeeper to edit the monk's stats to
STR 18
DEX 18
CON 16
WIS 15
INT 10
CHA 10

I figure that's not really "cheating," since I just shuffled stat points from one category to another (without increasing the total number). Besides, I hadn't started playing yet; I just didn't want to re-roll. ;)
