For those interrested....the modification for RTW, Rome Total Realism is revamped and improved. I just installed it and it's a whole new game altogether, a few new factions, new and improved skins, and faster loadtimes between turns. If you haven't tried it yet, yoo're missing out on a lot of fun.

But will it work with BI?
|
Probably not, if you want to install BI, it will probably have to be on a clean RTW install, since the original Imperial campaign doesn't work anymore with the Total Realism mod. Like i said, it's a whole different game than it originally was. No more House of Scipii, Brutii, and Julii, just Rome and it's armies at the dawn of a new empire.

My #1 question: How's the AI improved? I ask this because I recently fired it up again, started up a Scythia campaign on medium/hard (I heard that Hard/Very Hard doesn't add any tactical prowess to the units while giving both sides insane bonuses that allow horsemen to charge headon hoplites and win) and then played a bit. Until I grew overconfident and sieged up a parthian city with only 3 horse archers. He rode out with 4 horse archers and a unit of peasants.
Naturally, I thought I was going to lose. After all, I was outnumbered with the same type of troops. But to my amazement, he never entered Cantabrian Circle, but I did, and I slaughtered him losing only 34 men. After that battle, I played on a bit, but then realized that the computer was just too stupid and quit the game. Will that sort of thing happen in Total Realism? I mean, I don't mind losing, as long as it's a decent fight. And by challenges, I don't mean constant waves of full stack armies 10 turns after the game begins though... I just installed, and must say, I'm quite impressed. The WHOLE GAME is changed, all the units are re-skinned, and finances feel more realistic then the standard poor-for-the-first-10-turns-then-stinking-rich.

Conquering the entire map is also history i'm afraid, the number of cities has drastically increased and the worldmap as a whole also got a lot bigger, it stretched much further eastward. So don't expect any brilliant tactics from the AI, just much better looking units, much more enemy army movements (since he has much more cities, it's obvious he creates armies much faster), and no more dumb impossible senat assignments, you ARE the senat. I have to say that this is the second time i downloaded the Total Realism mod, i believe this is version 6.0. The version that came before this one was pretty dissapointing. I posted a thread about it once in this forum, not even all that long ago. But this one is definitely an improvement. |
