You guys did this and moved on in October I think, but I got Dawn of War over the holiday...and I was blown away.

I was unfamiliar with Warhammer 40k..but I really like the setting. Awesome graphics, shockingly violent, and just plain fun. The innovations of morale and holding areas of ground make this game much more warlike than the more base-oriented RTS's. It's got good voice acting too (well...Chaos is good in theory but annoys me...snivelling little heretics lol). Very importantly, they cut down on the micromanagement, although there is some with the leaders and tech trees. And as an aside I think that was the coolest intro ever. The engine is really cool, though they should give your camera more options, because I know everything's already 3d and highly detailed. What're they afraid of?

Unfortunately, my rave is cut short, just like the game. Why was there only one short campaign? I need more. Even if they didn't have voice acting and little intros - the gameplay is what I care about. Even if it's the same campaign played from different sides in their efforts to decimate Tartarus or keep it safe. Orks running over the Imperial cannon fodder would have been fun too. Call me greedy, but I want more races, more maps, and more campaigns..because I really do not like playing RTSs online (56k disconnections, anyone?). I'll snatch up any expansion or sequel immediately.

An expansion is announced, featuring the Tyranid.
What were they fearing with giving the camera more options? Confusion. That's the sole reason why some cameras are limited in games: the ability of the player to know what the heck is going on.
And yes, the game is great! Bow before the Ultramarines!

Yeah. You're probably right about the camera...I only wish I could go into a free view mode sometimes, to see my sergeant cut into a poor Eldar with a chainsword

Now that I think about it...this game has enough of a community that the camera thing probably exists.

And awesome about the expansion. I'm checking that out.

A camera likes Rome Total War would have made this game genius. My one disklike however, is how the Chaos cultist voice is super whiny. The music is surprisingly good, and I found myself REALLY like the main characters.

Agreed on all points (barring that I don't actually know what the RTW camera is like). Those chaos cultists are obnoxious, and I'm always happy to see what Sindri does to those who bring their superiors bad news. That big machine, the Devourer, with the artillery, the machinegun, and the upgraded flamethrower makes up for it I think.

The music is good, though on some level I was hoping for just one song from Bolt Thrower (a British death metal band that writes songs about Warhammer 40k for some reason lol). It's a bit extreme for a wide audience, but in the thick of battle it fits pretty well.
