I am creating a Paladin (Cavalier) and I have 6 proficiency points to spend.

I intend to put 2 against 2 handed sword and 2 against 2 handed weapon style.

I am not sure whre to put the remaining 2 i.e., short sword, mace, sword and shield style..............

Any advice (No spoilers please).

If I were you, I would have putted one proficiency in some blunting-weapon, like Warhammer, and one on Single Weapon Style.
That way, you can be good with a blunt-weapon, and be used to only use one weapon at the time.

see ya!

Thanks, I was thinking that a crashing type weapon would help me against undead and golems etc.

Ahh, then you should go for a Mace.
Maybe you know why, maybe you dont. But that's my tip if you want a good weapon vs Undead. ;)

Are you planning to solo?

If not, I would put 3 stars in two handed sword, 2 in two handed weapon, and 1 in mace or flail. The extra star in 2 handed will get you where you want to be (5stars) a little faster, and ensures you will make use out of that star. Every player has their own tastes, but in my experience paladins generally use 2 handed swords almost exlusively, as there are several powerful ones available.

Cant do this.
A Paladin can only put 2 points on each weapon or style.
IMO, that really sucks...

I had noticed that 2 points per slot is the maximum during character creation - I hope that I can increase this as I move up levels??

Please dont tell me that 2 per slot is the maximum forever!!!

I'm afraid it is. Only single-classed Fighters will be able to go beyond 2 stars. For Paladins, Rangers, Barbarians and multiclassed Fighters, 2 is the max. This is because those classes have other bonuses, like spellcasting etc., which a Fighter doesn't have.

yeah, if paladins would get 5 slots, that would be unfair. don`t worry, the first two slots affect your skills most, you get much less bonuses with the other 3 extra slots, plus you can spend them on other good weapons. david_m11,i think the best idea is to place your extra 2 slots on war hammer. and since you don`t want me to spoil you, just play on, till you get a really good war hammer

Don't forget that dual classed fighters can also advance to grandmastery
