They are both great games. But IMHO, BGII has greater replayability and much more depth, in both gameplay (i.e. qualtiy and number of quests) and character developement. BGII has many side quests along the lines of Durlag's tower. So many in fact that it is probable you will not have done them all even after your second time through. There also seem to be more storyline options in BGII.

If you life BGI I would say BGII is a must. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

I am just starting BGI after finishing BGII! A little backward, but I decided that I want to export my character into my next trip through BGII. So, far, though expectedly not enhanced graphically as BGII, it is fun and I sense a pull to return to my game after not being there for about an hour! Always a good sign. I will keep you posted.

Anyone who has read my posts knows that I love both games. Right now, I'm still "into" GB2 since I waiting for TOB. BUT...

BG1 is amazing. It the "first love", a truly great game which starts the epic. Since you are starting at level 1, there is still that feeling of "What a big, dangerous world we've entered.." After seeing the layout of the towns, I felt like the country boy visiting the "big" city when I first entered Baldur's Gate. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/noncgi/smiles/wow.gif

Finding cool weapons, and fighting my way through enemies while barely keeping myself alive... http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/uhoh2.gif The cool easter egg encounters... (remember the "lost little boy and his dog" episode?)

BG2 is what you'll remember after you play it, but everytime you load up BG, you'll find a lump in your throat...

gotta love 'em... http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/hihi.gif http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...ievalsmile.gif

I know how you feel Runedawg, your first steps outside Candlekeep accompanied with constant yells of "HOLY CRAP A BEAR!!!" and "SH*T AN OGRE!!!!".....ah those were the days, opposed to now in BG2 where you're more likley to hear: "What? Only one dragon?"

*sigh* the memories http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

Jerome, you hit the nail there !!! I remember when i first met the ogre... D*MN !!! Hehe, i felt REAL fear when i met him http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif.

And Rude, youre right too !! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif BG has an special atmosphere... Walking the forests and finding unexpected little quests....aahh, old days http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/frown.gif

http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif IŽd vote Bg1 (except for the graphics, but that gives it a special touch too)

I remember the first wolf Imoen and I found, right outside of CandleKeep. I figure "OK, 2 on 1, and the programmers wouldn't make the hero THAT weak. I mean, I just killed some bugs and an assasin in the town..." I reloaded after the wolf killed us, and decided that STEALTH would be a good thing to use until I found some real weapons. http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...miles/hihi.gif

I haven't started on BGII...yet. But one thing that depressed me (and still does really) about BGI is there aren't any dragons. Wyverns sure but no dragons. I've hear that BGII has atleast one type of dragon(s). I guess it's those old D&D/AD&D reflexes kicking in again.

Dreamer128 06-02-2001 05:17 PM

For some reason, bg1 feels more like an adventure then bg2.
The thing i really liked was traveling over mutiple maps to get to the next town, it felt like i was on some kind of epic journey knowing that my destination would bring new answers too my almost endless list of questions.
