Friend of mine is trying to get Diablo 2 (original v1.0) to run under Windows XP (it worked fine under 98).
The thing installs okay, passes the video test okay, then craps out to a black screen when he tries to run the game. This is DX 9.0a. Any help will be much appreciated.
Nightowl2
|
If you have all the patches it ought to run perfectly. At least mine does.
P.S. is the 1.10 patch out of beta yet? [ 09-28-2003, 10:05 PM: Message edited by: Firestormalpha ] |
mine run perfectly in WinXP.
patch 1.10 haven't come out yet. |
Well, at the moment, patching isn't an option. Any other ideas?

just a suggestion, maybe change back to DX8 .

My understanding is that you can't back out from DX9 to a lower version, so that won't help :(

I've got DX9 and my diablo 2 still functions properly.
No clue what could be wrong with yours. |

Well, I've been playing the game (off and on) since it came out (have the collector's edition, in fact) and the only thing to watch out for is the problem with the arcane sanctuary and the portal to the canyon of the magi. Otherwise, I've never had any trouble with it at all.
Also, I don't like the way Blizzard makes changes all the time to the character classes, mainly nerfing them. Maybe that's okay if you're playing on battle net, which I don't do. I play solo or over the 'net with friends. Since you need same versions to play, and I have 1.0, naturally I can only play with someone also using 1.0. Of course, if we can't come up with some other solution, he may need to patch. In that case, alas, multiplay with him will be out of the question.
Nightowl2
|
You still haven't explained why patching isn't an option. Why don't you and your friends all download and install the patches? If a friend doesn't have net access he/she can't very well multi-play with you now can they? So everyone whose version is of concern to you should be more than capable of updating their games.
