I purchased a copy of Alien vs Predator Gold Edition off half.com last week. The product was advertised as "brand new, still shrinkwrapped". When it arrived, the CD was still wrapped just as promised. But when I tried to install it, it kept asking for Disc #2 - which I did NOT get.
I contacted the seller and told them I was running XP Home Edition. They said the product only comes with 1 CD, but they sent instructions on how to try installing the game under XP's "System Compatability Wizard". NO DICE! It is still asking for the AvP Music CD (Disc 2). I contacted the seller again and told them I had browsed some of the other auctions for this item and learned that it WAS a "2 CD game". I then asked them how we could "resolve this issue". I haven't heard back from them since then. So I have two questions. First, is Alien vs Predators Gold Edition compatable (or at least operable) with XP. Second, does anyone have a copy of the game (or at least Disc 2) they no longer use. If you do, send me a PM or email and we'll work out the details. In the meantime, looks like I'm going to have to file my first claim for a refund through half.com. |
Well, AvP on my XP home system didn't work... It has some gripes with NT, 2000 and XP, it's the same thing so D/L their Win2000 patch to get it working, and you'll need that music CD. Talk to that guy, or leave him a few bad comments on Ebay Re: his false advertising and incomplete merchandise, which was sold as a 'complete' item. Did it come with a print manual? If not, then he was definitely bullshitting. I'd gladly give you my Music CD if I didn't use it myself.
PS. Once you've installed it, you don't need the Music CD, it was just a measure to make sure that no one hacked the thing to require it. It doesn't even install files off the thing. |
lol he really ripped ya.... it seems as such a good game but the thing about not working with xp systems i think there is a patch for just search Avp2 Xp patch Download on yahoo.com

I've already sent two emails to the seller telling them I would like a solution to this problem. In the second one, I told them that I either needed the 2nd Disc or a refund.
They responded quickly to my first inquiry, but it's been two days since I told them their suggestions didn't work and I would need a better solution. If they don't come through, I will definitely leave negative feedback (which would be the first time I've had to do that) and I will seek a cancellation of the charge through half.com |
GOOD NEWS!!! The seller agreed to give me a full refund. I was worried that he/she wouldn't because - "technically speaking" - they did not advertise falsely. They advertised the game as being "brand new, still wrapped", and it was. The did NOT advertise it as being complete - which it wasn't. Still, everything should be good (we'll see).
In the meantime, I will be looking for the complete version of the game on half.com. Thanks for the advice...I'll be sure to download the 2000 patch when I receive the game. |
