Is Return to Krondor compatible with Windows XP? I've been thinking of purchasing it, but don't want to waste the money if it won't work with XP.

I can tell you flat out, no. I just finished Betrayal in Antara (another one within the series I guess), and I had to play it on Win98.

That is because Betrayal in Antara is an older game than Return to Krondor. There are 3 games published by Sierra:

1. Betrayal in Krondor (DOS, released as freeware)
2. Betrayal in Antara (win95, unrelated to the Krondor story)
3. Return to Krondor (win98, sequel to BIK)
