Yeah, this is my first time playing BG2 and I've battled my way to the Asylum. I heard that after talking to the pirate king and convincing him you are insane or whatever, he lets you into the asylum and gives you 38500 points. Right before you leave the game auto-saves and you can go back to that autosave and acquire more exp. So I did this a few times, until it stopped giving me experience. Then I continued on my quest but for some reason I don't ever get experience anymore. Anybody have this happen to them ever?

I'm currently a Level 17 Paladin

I think you've reached the experience cap. You stop getting experience when you have 2,950,000 (or so). A level 18 paladin needs 3,000,000 experience, so you can't get higher than level 17 without installing ToB or removing the experience cap.

oh...that makes sense, for some reason I was thinking level 21 was the cap or something like that.

How about the other characters.

Alright, I feel like a noob asking this question, but if you have TOB installed can you go beyond the SOA exp limit while still in SOA?

The SoA's Xp cap is set as 2,950,000 Xp.

So long as your combined Xp is 2,950,000, your will cease to gain Xp.

For a twin-multiclassed character, this means that each class only gets 1,475,000 Xp before you hit the Xp cap.

Remember, it is the combined Xp, so bear that in mind when you examine your Dualclassed characters as well.

Within the SoA experience limits, Paladins, Rangers, Magi and Sorcerers can reach level 17, Fighters and Barbarians level 19, Clerics and Monks level 21, Druids level 14 and Thieves and Bards level 24.
