I went through the undead home first, and then moved on to the rats home, where I met Many as One, and he wants me to go kill the silent king, how can I get the key to the Silent King's room, and is it even worth it, or should I just fight the rats instead?

kill the silent king if you are playing an evil type character if you lean more towards good then fight the many as one.
To get to the silent king you need to find the portal (you dont go through the big door) SPOILER ALERT . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . To find the portal you have to convince Stale Mary to let you see the silent King and she will tell you about the portal and its key, to do this you need a minimum of 16 charisma (it might be 15 i cant really remember) |
SPOILERS
. . . . . . . . . .. . . . . The most xp is to do Many's quest. The dead priest fella has the key; but, you are going to have to off him. Once you start battle in The Nations, everyone turns hostile. Not to worry, they are very slow if you don't want to fight them all. I had a 23 Ch and Mary wouldn't tell me about the portal. One time I ran by them, the other time I cleaned out the joint and neither time was my LG alighnment affected. Go figure. |
I went to the warrens first then to the Dead Nation and then back.
Then I just lied to Many-as-One and said the Silent King couldn't be defeated(?). |
I did the Silent King quest, and then killed off everybody in the Nations as well. It doesn't affect your alignment (the dead don't have rights after all). After that I also offed Many-as-one as well, be careful, he's tough, I remember casting resurrection thrice during combat to bring back Dakkon and Annah. Eventually the rats will stop coming and many-as-one will say something like 'I give up.'

I did all the quests for many as one, then killed all the undead.
I then proceded to kill the Cranium rats and many as one but gave up after fighting for 10-15 minutes and nothing happening, so I just got the tails and went. |
Is it possible to kill Many-as-one? Or does he always run away?
|
Nope, you can't kill Many-as-one. I had Morte to taunt him and all my party members grouped up to whack him/it. It doesn't not seems to take any damage at all. Maybe you need a +20 weapon to kill it (Joking).
Anyway, if you offended Many-as-one, it will send hordes of cranium rats to kill you (and your party), if you kill enough of them rats, the cranium rat collective will give it and pronounced that they will no longer trouble you anymore (something like that, I don't remember the exact words). But I don't think you gain any extra XPs for "defeating" Many-as-one/cranium rat collective. If you want the XP bonuses, you better accept their quest and then lied that the Silent King cannot be killed (if you don't feel like killing all the friendly undeads in the Dead Nation). As I was unable to convince Stale Mary to let me "meet" the Silent king, I end up fighting the cranium rat collective. [ 08-29-2002, 11:02 PM: Message edited by: Paladin2000 ] |
You're all referring to Many As One as he. It's a collective, not an individual. Killing Many As One would be like killing all mosquitos, you can kill hundreds of them, but you really haven't affected the entity itself.
You also need a fair amount of intelligence or wisdom to get Stale Mary to open the portal. You need around 15 int to learn the ability to talk to the dead. Once you get this, if your charisma is high enough, I think she'd open give you the key. |
My intelligence was 9, and Stale Mary taught me how to talk to the dead. She didn't open a portal, though.
